Other games like this?
Can anyone recommend other games that let you build vehicles and have a relatively robust physics system?

Scrap Mechanic, it's Early Access and there is a lot of content on the way but it's very similar

I was considering mentioning scrap mechanic in my original post because I actually played that before I found trailmakers, but I consider trailmakers to be superior in a lot of ways especially in the physics department.

Check out "Planet Nomads"
Although the game is pretty deserted at the moment, this single player thing is sure to give you a few hours of fun.

It's best to wait for the discount...

Main Assembly has a different building system, instead of bricks you got, hm, how should I describe it, like, tube-structures, sorta like the stuff they make the chassis of professional monster-trucks, the stuff under the artistic shells they have, you know? And the open space between tubes can have a surface in place capping the shape the tubes make; sorta like polygon faces you have in 3d modeling, but with the big difference that the tubes have some thickness, and you can curve them. And you can attach all sorts of parts to those structures and surfaces; most of the stuff you would expect, wheels, springs, pistons, hinges etc.

Stormworks, Space Engineers, Kerbal Space Program, Robocraft, Robocraft 2 (not released yet), TerraTech, etc. I don’t own all of these, but here are some I thought of off the top of my head just now. I could probably find more.

Have you tried playing Mechanical Lab yet?
Also worth looking into GearBlocks
