I would say no.
It's great and has it's charms but frustratingly missing so many basic options that I take for grated in other games.

I have both Scrap Mechanic and Trailmakers, Both are great for different things.

Scrap Mechanic is great for complex builds and basic builds as well, you can build a house, car, plane, hovercraft, teleportation device - whatever you want.

Trailmakers i feel like is more focused on building transportation vehicles like cars, planes and this is what it excels in, way better than Scrap Mechanic. The cars in Trailmakers feel way better compared to Scrap Mechanic.

You should get both imo if you can, you get best of both worlds then. If not, then get Scrap Mechanic.

No.
Don't ever feed a company that would sneak spyware into their products.

It's true that an spyware known as red shell existed, but there weren't any games that used it for obvious reasons. What a lot of games used was an advertisement program that tracked the effectiveness of ads, it was just that the developers of that program decided to also call it red shell, which made a ton of people confuse it with the spyware even though they had nothing to do with eachother.

What this program did was very simple, if at some point you saw an ad for the game and clicked on it the program would take your IP address, hash it and store it. Since it was hashed, there is no way to get back the original IP from that so it was impossible to connect it to you (it's not actually impossible, but doing so would require more time than the life time of the universe which makes it impossible in practice). If you then bought the game and opened it, the program would do the same process again and check the hash against the database of hashes, if there was a match it meant that you had bought the game after seeing an ad for it so it marked it on the database. Afterwards the program simply turned itself off. This allowed them to see what percentage of people bought the game after seeing an ad, which allowed them to have more effective ads. Since all they stored was the hash of your IP, they had no way to spy the users nor track personal information, and all information they stored was anonimized.
