Worth it?
I was going to buy it, since I do love open world builder things like I did with Lego, but I saw the mixed reviews. So, is it worth it anymore? Or did they Bethesda it?

At first i did not mind the new "It's a racing game now" update, but more and more i'm leaning more towards "they Bethesda'd it" since they did take away the largest free build map. Now there are only a couple relatively small free build maps (not counting the old and the new race maps) that don't really have any objectives in them. Someone did say that it's still possible to play on the old Expedition map by switching back to the pre-rally update.

In short: if you like racing against global leaderboards then it's not bad as long as they don't decide to 're-balance' something again.

if you are looking for a open world exploration this in not your thing anymore, but if you are looking for open world sandbox game with races this is deffinatly your thing and you are gonna love it, they time to time rebalance the physics to make it more realistic and more functioning and your crafts may broke but most of the time you can change couple things and it is working as it used to

Yeah. I refunded.

I'd refund - correction - I wouldn't have purchased a game like this. It's now totally different to what I purchased.

trailmakers did a bait and switch and with the negative feedback they got they say they will now make an exploration mode which in all likely hood would take at least another year. If you like sandbox open world builders you might want to look at scrap mechanic instead since it is open to the modding community, can build you own maps. even has a challenge mode that you can build your own if you wish. all of which can be put on the steam workshop. scrap mechanic is also working on a survival mode that they hope to be out sometime at the end of this year.

And they are making a survival mode.

The online creative mode is still as good as it's always been, and I'd consider it as the leading judge of the game's worth in it's current state. The majority of players are upset about the removal of the sandbox and addition of a (currently) poorly balanced racing mode. The team promised a new iteration to be released, so here's hoping it comes sooner than later.
It's worth noting that you can play the legacy version of sandbox mode at any time, but it will no longer be officially supported.

Its not an open world game anymore. They changed what the game is and some are happy with that and some are not. In my opinion they should have worked on the game more and gotten things fixed, added, and working correctly before changing what the game was, now they have all the things they needed before plus the unbalanced new game they created.
