how long does it take to learn gml
ive been playing around with it for about 20 hours and still dont understand anything at all. am i stupid?

Everyone learns at their own pace. I've had this for a few years now and I still hardly know a damn thing, lol.

depends what you are trying to do...

I had a long background in QBasic before starting GML and was able to switch right to it without a care.

Of course, I have the rare and hated opinion that all the procedural languages are basically the same

Watch tutorials before you start making a game. Watch a lot of them. It'll start making sense after a while
It took me about a few months before I started making games without googling everything

You can ask people how to do something here on steam or better on the gm forum
