I am happy about SEGA's stance on not being pressured into being being politically correct. It would be a disaster if they did, too many game companies have failed on this front inculding something they didn't want in the first place, or they changed something they did not want to change because of hate mobs policing anything and everything.
SEGA isn't developing Sonic Mania, and nothing about any of this has anything to do with political correctness.
And what does your bad sprite have to do with the topic at hand or even the rest of your post?
Just why?
Well I think you could improve the sprite greatly by changing his color to green instead. The blue just looks awful. It makes the character look sort of gay.
Also, consider making it a hippo instead. There are already tons of wolf characters, so seeing yet another wolf character is extremely boring. A hippo character would be fresh and exciting, and make for a way better player character in a game.
Oh yeah, I see now. You know, I too am a artist and so understand your concerns.
Like just the other day, I drew this duck.

I do understand it's nice Sega doesn't just bend to the will of our (out of its mind, if you ask me) world. I just found it funny that they haven't stuck a single female character into this game... And the non-feminist is the one to notice it!
Y'know, maybe I should've made a duplicate thread instead of necroposting. Then I could've done a title that gets people's attention: "Feminists Fail to Notice... Mania has no Females!"

No s.hit Sherlock. Yes, she would be using her hammer and it would be powerful, but the tarot cards would exist as powerups to enhance her abilities only. Quite a few other rare elements of Sonic get used in Mania already, such as Mighty and Ray returning in Mania+, the Amy Doll as a reference to Amy's CD appearance and Tails Doll from Sonic R, Final Zone finally getting a nostalgia boss in Metallic Madness after the Death Egg Robot stole its thunder for so long and Classic Sonic's 3D model from Sonic R in the special stages. Having Amy tarot cards appearing as well wouldn't hurt, and having them function like the ones in Painkiller would be a good way to implement them, as that's how I first heard of Tarot cards. (The other option would be making them work like the Binding of Isaac)
Apart from that...
I understand the points of your argument. The tarot cards probably would fit in nicely considering all the other random things they referenced. And you said they would enhance her abilities. But that would also mean adding in extra animations and moves along with the other hammer animations and moveset, right? *looks up Painkiller*...Hmm. So it could just be taking the existing moveset and powering it up in some way, basically a game cheat of some sort? Would I be right in saying these are basically portable monitors? I probably shouldn't talk more until I figure out how these function...
Anyway, I just didn't like the idea of us asking why Amy wasn't playable, and then throwing around random ideas as to how she could play, when she already has a gameplay style that is solid enough.
I suppose that the cards would require level design tweaks as well, and... ahhh, it's just too much to implement. Maybe for an Amy-focused fangame, but probably not Mania. Assuming we even get her in the game.
You're probably right. It'd probably attract the wrong audiences on both ends. I do not want feminists ruining Mania.
Just wanted to hear opinions on it. The thought came to me randomly when thinking about the subject.
I'll say whatever the f.uck I like.
Apart from that...
Well, not exactly a cheat per-se, more of a powerup that functions in two ways: some cards are used on the spot, using up a certain number of rings as a special move or attack and others are passive. The Painkiller wiki on that games tarot cards could explain the system better than I, as I haven't played Painkiller for a while now.

Perhaps Amy's cards could shine more in the new zones instead of the current ones. I came up with the idea as I find Amy harder to control than the other characters in Sonic Advance and the card system may alliviate that somewhat, like some partner characters do for her in Advance 3.
Even if she doesn't get implemented, there's always mods.
Apart from that...
I *kinda* see your point. Kinda.
I'm afraid I can't access the wiki though, as I am a kid (explaining my constant attempts at censoring and not having immense knowledge of FPSes-- wait... probably more kids know about FPSes than adults, but what the heck, I live in 'da past! I still use the original GBA!)-- anyway, I am a kid whose parents have set up a web filtering program. I did manage to get the Sonic and MegaMan parts of Wikia un-blocked though. Guess I'll just have to go with what I've got in what you wrote and say it's still a bit too ambitious for a character like Classic Amy who hasn't even received an appearance in years.
As for modding, I would actually buy this game if someone would at least mod in the hammer gameplay, but based on the mod videos I've seen, no one has. If neither the devs nor modders will acknoledge that awesome, original piece of gameplay, I'll continue to not buy the game in protest. Now I suppose an extra $20 is not a way to convince 'em to put Amy in Sonic Mania, but I will still be doing this, until my willpower is spent or I come to my senses or something. 'Till then, Sega!
Break through the web filtering program then. We did that all the time in high school. Try to set up a proxy to bypass the filter for exmaple. As for the mod's, keep your fingers crossed that someone adds one eventually.
