SideWinder USB gamepad and Sonic Mania
I have an old Microsoft SideWinder USB gamepad that I would like to play Sonic Mania with unfortunatly the game doesn't support native gamepad support when I tried to configure the controls with this gamepad. This SideWinder gamepad is compatible with Windows 10 when it successfully detects and installs the drivers. I can also test the gamepad in controller settings and have no issues at all. I have heard and used this program before this game came out called Pinnacle Game Profiler which allows you to configure the gamepad in any custom profiles to play in some games.

Will SEGA add native gamepad support to Sonic Mania in the future like Undertale did?

Not anymore. Microsoft stopped making SideWinder joysticks and gamepads since 2003 although they have made SideWinder keyboards and mouses since 2007. I don't think they still produce and sell SideWinder stuffs anymore.

It has native support, but for xinput (Xbox 360 style controllers), not dinput (what SideWinder and other old gamepads have). Since you're playing through Steam though, you don't need Pinnacle Game Profiler (or Padstarr, or XPadder, or Keysticks, or Joy2Key, or any controller mapping software) because Steam already has that built in. Launch into Big Picture Mode, go to the Gear icon at the top of the screen, and go to Controller Settings. You can enable support for old dinput style controllers (Enable Generic Controller Support) there, then when you're big picture and have Sonic Mania open (not launched), go down one (from Launch to Manage Game) and under that you'll see Controller Configuration or whatever. You can use that to make your SideWinder either emulate xinput or just set it to use the keyboard keys.

There's a program called x360ce that lets you emulate a 360 controller with any pad...

...but it doesn't work with Denuvo-infected games.
I think someone on the forum once said it would work with sonic mania if you renamed one of the x360ce file.

edit : I found it http://steamcommunity.com/app/584400/discussions/0/1474221865178112583/

Denuvo shouldn't stop x360ce. I know a ton of users who have used that without any issues with NieR:Automata. It's all about finding an injecting method that the game supports, that x360ce also supports.

Well...my Saturn USB Controller does't get sensed by this game, which I find truly absurd. I hope that proper DInput support is added very soon.
