Giving new players the value pack is just annoying
Just using the features without really knowing what is what, then logging in one day and losing half your bank space, forcing you to re-organize everything, throw away a bunch of stuff and waste a lot of time going from 32 to 16 slots, whilst your inventory also shrinks.

I'd much rather not get this stuff as it's just demotivating and annoying to deal with, on top of being an extremely transparant way of trying to force people to buy the value pack by frustrating them, the new player experience is already atrocious, and this just made me not wanting to play.

You only lose 16 inventory and storage slots without a VP, might be overreacting.

With even just a few contribution points (which you should have if you at least played mainquests) you can open up hundreds of storage slots, wherever you want to have them. Just click the town/village/settlement/node and that'll open up the available spaces for rent, clicking them to learn what they have available and how much they cost to have (in contribution points). Say your Velia/Heidel storage was full, then you lost the 16 slots, simply rent some storage for 1 or 2 CP and open up 20 or 30 slots, fixed. You can keep opening more storage room, as long as the node allows it, storage will keep increasing. You can also rent a house this way, make it a base/home/whathaveyou.

For inventory slots there are quests on your journal that read "inventory expansion" or something in those lines to grant you more slots, and PA rather regularly gives away slots. Season has inventory slots, the current terminus event has inventory slot rewards, etc etc.

Big issue with new players, rather complain than trying to establish whether or not you're bound to the issue. Evildousharm has covered all this at lenght and maybe its easier to follow in video format:

16 out of 32 storage slots, and with a bunch of different storages in different towns that's hundreds of slots that just disappeared and anything over 16 you have to take out and put into different locations, whilst your inventory also shrunk and it just becomes annoying.

The new player experience is also just bad, giving people a ton of stuff and then just take it away isn't a positive experience that anyone enjoys, it's clearly just a 'frustrate the player into spending money' or 'give them a sample of what they could have'.

Since the moment I started playing I'm busy figuring things out, figuring out what to do with the 100+ items in my black spirit safe, the 100+ items as challenge rewards, the season pass, the daily login, the other daily login, rolling dice for whatever items, figuring out what amity is, figuring out how to upgrade anything, what items I should use, what items I should not use, only for the next person to tell me the opposite, how to make anything, deciding to put everything in the storage that I don't have a use for only to lose the storage, a bunch of different events, tokens, fish, and whatnot, completing quests for items that I cannot use as a season character turns out.

The game throws a million things at you and explains about 2 of those things, I have played plenty of MMOs and it's still just an unpleasant and overwhelming experience as a new player, constantly reading wikis and videos and guides but I also just want to play the game in the time that I have and not endlessly be watching videos and whatnot on the subject.. whenever you need to go outside of a game to find information about the game it tends to just be lacking in design.

And quite frankly the new player doesn't need 90% of the things thrown at them, so it is just poor design at the end of the day, it's not an experience made with the new player in mind, it's made for the veteran player who makes a new character and about getting them to level 60 ASAP, the exact same mistake other MMOs make that have been around for a long time.. World of Warcraft is another atrocious new player experience with only the veteran player in mind.

I wouldn't defend the new player experience either, theres too much of an information dump from all the systems and mechanics added over the years, for older players thats good (we play seasons too), for new ones it might be a bottomless pit that'll have your head spinning, but usually new player MO is just complain (and possibly quit) rather than figuring things out. It all falls into place eventually.

If you were enjoying yourself up until the storage shenanigans, maybe take a breath, take a break, and try it another time, not only is it a real fixable problem but storage is remotely accessed nowadays, you can have something stored in Velia and retrieve it all the way from Land of Morning Light. Evildousharm is also a BDO encyclopedia, you have an issue, he'll have a 5 minute video giving you the rundown, plus very easy to follow, his comment section often littered with new players thankin the guy "otherwise i'd be so lost".

if you dont have vp u have to pay extra taxes on the market place when selling. just save them to use when you are selling things. use it before you claim it
There is a Premium Value pack in the Pearl Shop now. You get something like 54 Pearls every day that you log in. If you use a 20% coupon to buy it and log in for 30 days, it's pretty close to a free VP. Don't say that I never gave you anything. 🤪

Value pack doesn't seem that interesting to me, just seems like you become dependant on it and then be forced to endlessly buy it to keep using all the storage space and whatnot.
They already want like 35 bucks for the season pass, another 25 or so for the daily login and then 15 for the value pack and then still sell everything else for exuberant prices.

I'll see how far I get without spending all that money and either I'll manage without or I'll play something else.

I feel like they really need to mash up the value pack with kama blessing and blessing of the new moon to make the "subscription" worth it, as it is you'd be paying about $70 per month to get every "subscription" benefit.

Don't even know what those things are, but seems like there's more than enough things to spend money on even without that.
If you think losing the value pack is annoying. Then I think you are in for a rude awakening. Just wait till you clear the seasons with full PEN Tuvula. Then the F2P trials and tribulations really start to kick in. Then the F2P trials and tribulations multiply again after you finish reforming your Jetina gear to PEN Boss. At this point you will go through a mid game crisis and start to question your sanity.

All and all BDO has taught me that I am a masochist deep down inside. 10/10 will recommend BDO to other fellow masochists. 12k+ hours and still counting, my most played MMORPG to date. As the song "A Question of Heaven" by Iced Earth starts playing in the back of my mind. Damn, just had a deep moment for a second there.

So should I just stop playing now?

Honestly I think you should try it out. But just have some realistic expectations for the game. Don't get me wrong, BDO is very fun and interesting. But, I'm bias in the assessment because again, I am a masochist. Worst case is that you lose $10 and about 50 hours of your time to find out you don't like it. Other the other hand, best case is that you too will find out that deep down inside you are also a masochist, and will not want to quit BDO.

At the end of the day, the choice is yours!

I mean I enjoy the gameplay, but if it's just one of those things that are fun initially to draw you in and then start punishing you, monetizing everything and paying money being the only realistic way to progress without treating the game like a career, that's not fun.

Honestly you can do much worse than BDO in the current MMO genre. Pretty much there are only 5 MMOs in my personal opinion, that maybe worthy of playing, BDO, GW2, FFXIV, ESO, and Eve Online. Out of those 5 MMOs I currently spend time on BDO and GW2.

Honestly if you don't want to treat a game like a career. My advice to you, would be to stay away from the MMO genre. Because the MMO genre is all about spending hundreds if not thousands of hours to grind for gear to be relevant in their endgame. The other options that MMOs offer these days is to instead of pay with your time. You have the option to leverage your IRL money to gain super fast progression in MMOs without much grinding.
Mirage Jul 24, 2023 @ 7:18am
I don't mind spending time, but if your time isn't valued at all and you need to spend a 100 hours to get $5 worth of items it's just a waste of time and the end result is not satisfying if others bought themselves to the same outcome.

Spending a 1000 hours to get where someone else got within 20 hours after opening their wallets wouldn't be a game worth playing.
Nhika Jul 24, 2023 @ 8:31am
Just dump all your items into a town or something, they literally just added global storage this year.. and are adding "noob" inventory I think lol
Also Value Packs aren't a huge thing in BDO... a ton of people just wait for free Value Packs given out, sell and upgrade. Or they just use the Loyalty 1 day VP to sell stuff on the market.
