Also, you don't need to get your riding level higher to tame a horse. I made a new character 2 days ago and before she ever rode a horse, I went out and caught a tier 5 horse.
The way the taming minigame works is you need to buy a number of ropes from the stable master. 10 is a good number since you'll probably need to use a few to get used to the minigame. Then you need lumps of sugar. The materials are 10 raw sugar and 1 mineral water, which can be bought from a npc in the tavern. Then I believe the lumps of sugar is in one of the processing categories, though I can't remember which one. Jus switch between them and look at the lists of recipes on the pages where the raw sugar is selectable on the right. If it's greyed out then that's definitely the wrong page.
With the lumps of sugar and the ropes in your inventory, it might be best to hot bar them. Open your inventory, drag the items to empty spots on the hotbar below.
Ho out and fight a wild horse. Wild horses will wander around and parked horses owned by players will stand in 1 spot, if anyone parked their horse there. Look online for locations. Then when you find a horse you press the key for the rope on the hotbar. You'll start swinging a lasso. Then click to throw the rope. When the horse is lassoed, start walking toward it with W. When it lifts its front legs, stop and start mashing space. There will be a timer under the bar with a count down of seconds. You need to mash until it reaches 0. Then walk toward it with W. When close enough, give it a lump of sugar to make the attempt to get on more likely to succeed. With it in your hotbar, press the key when standing next to it. Then try to get on. Even with the sugar the chance isn't 100%. If it fails you need to start over. If it succeeds you need to take it to a stable master and register it.
Or you can buy a mule from a stable master. :)
Thanks for the horse capturing info. I have quests but haven't tried yet to lasso though I did create a lump of sugar yesterday for the first time. Good info that I'll need a recommended 10 lumps and 10 lassos.
Also, I somehow got a horse doing quests but not sure where, who or what level I was.
You can get your free donkey if you talk with Zaaira in Velia and do all of the sickle symbol life skill quests. Follow them all throughout Velia and eventually it will lead you back to the Western Guard Camp where you will do a couple of sickle symbol life skill quests for Feinia and she'll give you a free regular donkey. You choose which donkey you want.
None of the regular donkey's are faster like what you want.
The only donkey that is faster is the one you get via a quest with the Shai class.
Shai can choose one of the 3 donkeys after completing a level 56+ Black Spirit quest called [Shai] Black Spirit’s Gift (Donkey).
I already have the Shai donkey. I just wanna know if the free Velia quest donkey (that I used to have) has the same speed as the strong black donkey sold at the stables.
The advancement of those skills are totally RNG at each level up.
Sometimes you can get a very, very good increase, but most often it is meager or a little better than meager.
There is a very good chance your free donkey was faster than most, but that was all due to you getting better than average RNG increases at each donkey level up. Not because it was the free donkey. 😊
