you arent forced to pay something every month to play but you really need a value pack that is 15$ usa per month and has some really good buffs.
Value pack gives +100 extra weight, 16 inventory and storage slots, extra 10% exp and the most important part 30% more money in market sells (after taxes) which is massive especially for lifeskillers, selling 3k meals per day i get around 120mill if i didnt have a value pack that would drop to 91mill, so having it active is really necessary
Thanks man! I was about to give up on this thread because of all the trolls! Is this what the in-game community is like??
U don’t have to pay but it’s really helpful with the value pack
And artisan memory
And elions tear
The trick here is simple.
ALTS, LOTS OF ALTS.
Also you better LOVE life skilling(which I do).
You get a "log-in currency" called "loyalty" and much starter bonus loyalty.
ONLY buy character slots with it and fill them up with all the other classes. Then level each one quickly to lvl50 with the Black Spirit questline so you farm up all the free inventory expansions.
A slight warning, you might end up liking one of the "mules" more than your original main. So better treat each one like a proper character you´d want to play eventually.
Also there´s a simple trick to get "emergency" inventory space by utilizing the cheap farm wagons in heidel and park one in a stable, the camps even. I park the free mules from my alts there.
At first though you´ll definitely need the value packs, especially when you´re a slower player like me. But I joined the game last fall and the sales were comming in thick (including a RARE 75% of slot sale, which I mercilessly exploited.)
So I haven´t even used up the "free subscription" month the game awards you just for logging in regularly for your first 30 days.
Bottom line, if you´re one of those ENDGAME NAU players, you´re gona pay.
A LOT.
If you´re a bit smarter and in for the long haul, this game is VERY much for you and also quite bening to "non-payers".
Once you´ve invested some funds it´s actually pretty cheap, all considering.
This is a cash-grab game where 90% of ppl are afk for fishing or cooking.
Don't waste your time and go on TESO, GW2 or FFXIV
Black Desert Online is a hybrid Sandbox / Open World MMORPG. For solo or group players players, End game can mean Lifeskilling, PVE, and / or PVP.
No need to pay for anything else - A free player can do all endgame content. I repeat -- You can do EVERYTHING in the game FOR FREE (after buying the game, of course).
Spending money in the Pearl Shop will NOT "open any doors". It can, however, increase your time efficiency by a great deal. It can also improve your gaming "Quality of Life" depending on your playstyle.
Example: For Lifeskillers - pets are not as important (but can still be helpful). For PVE fighting - pets are very convenient to have as they pick up loot for you.
Although the cash shop has ALOT of things for sale - Nothing you can buy will increase your combat power. NOTHING you can buy will improve your RNG either.
The in-game design allows newer players to catch up to the old rich veterans. In the end, everyone is at the mercy of RNG to get better gear.
Whether you are a solo player or a team player - there is ALOT to do. Either way, I would advise you to find a guild that suits your playstyle.
If you are a casual player who loves an open world / sandbox style game then you might really like BDO. This game has ALOT of content for $10 and casual players might feel inclined to make purchases to support the game while increasing their time efficiency / QoL.
If you are an aggressive player who loves to be on top then the grind and RNG system might cause you to complain. This game has ALOT of content in the Pearl Shop where you spend RL $. Aggressive end-gamers might feel inclined to make purchases to speed up their race to the top.
*Note - Pearl Shop items can also be purchased in the marketplace using in-game currency. It is a lottery system to get these items. You cannot outbid other players for Pearl Shop items. So the rich players who have sunk in thousands of hours playing have no advantage here.
The in-game community and forums for BDO are just like every other game. You wil find helpful people and you will also find toxic ones. When a game has as many players as BDO has, even a vocal minority can sound loud.
I think of Value Packs like a voluntary subscription. Please note that you can also buy valuepacks in the marketplace (with luck) or through the loyalty shop. You can also get a few of them through attendance rewards. Use value packs strategically if you don't intend to buy any.
