Female characters
Just curious: Is there non-sexist, actual adventure-proven gear for female characters as well, or are all women forced to run around in high heels, short skirts and tights like in some childish anime?

All the footage I have seen this far gave me the impression that you can have only cool looking male characters, but women all wear high heels and cutesy ribbons in their hair, and generally look silly compared to their male counterparts.

I won't buy this game if you can't dress up your female characters like serious adventurers, so I would like to know in advance, since the game itself looks extremely good.

There's for sure a bunch of fanservice clothing, but the stuff my character began with (Sorceress) had no fanservice on it and nothing has changed, allthough it may depend on what starter clothing you pick (Idk if you can, just looked like it)

Another one of these. Since I'm in a sharing mood, I'll prove why all these "sexist" claims are false in society.

It's a common stereotype that gamers are basically basement dwellers that don't ever leave the house. The more I see these different sexist and whatever claims, the more that stereotype seems to be true. People try to claim that females in video games are always portrayed in a sexist way and it's unrealistic. Well I'm not sure where these type of people live, but over all the years I can go out into public and see plenty of females dressed in a way that is pretty similar to how they are portrayed in media. Tight revealing clothing, plenty of cleavage, not really leaving much to the imagination. I see this on a daily basis, whether it's at a gas station or even a grocery store. So I don't understand where people get the concept of sexy females in games being unrealistic.

Let's take a trip into the past. Females were basically worshipped. Men have always viewed females as almost a sacred thing. They have always been put onto a pedestal. That behaviour still takes place to this day, which is why males tend to view and enjoy females in an attractive way. But now for some reason a lot of women freak out when a guy might be looking at them, because how dare a man admire the beauty of the female form. Yet if we try and treat women as just an ordinary person, they tend to feel unattractive and worthless because of the lack of affection or attention. A good majority of men know what women want and how we're supposed to treat them but it seems women themselves have lost track of what they actually want.

Take a look at cosplayers. Lara Croft, the real one and not that new wannabe, is an icon in gaming and the world in general. There has been countless women dressing up as her or wanting to be like her ever since the 90's when she came out. Yet a lot of her popularity came from basically being a sex symbol. So why are all these girls enjoying looking like her and acting like her? Because it's what females want. Same thing goes for all the other costumes women are wearing. Zero Suit Samus, Tifa from FF7, Rikku from FF10, etc. The list goes on and on of so called sexualized characters that women love dressing up as.

If we truly want to start talking sexism in games, then males definitely have it the worst. I'm a male and have been playing video games since the Atari days. All throughout the years, I've had to play countless games where it's always manly men that tend to be muscular and ripped and are just the coolest thing ever. The average male is not a big muscular dude and the way males are portrayed sometimes is kind of insulting. Yet you never hear anyone complaining about sexism towards guys. We're just the big dumb man and nobody cares. Stop crying and go smash a beer can on your forehead.

So as much as the general population might not fully agree with how both genders are portrayed in media, the truth is nobody wants to see an average person. I don't want to play a game where I'm an obese character with a McDonald's cheeseburger hanging out of their mouth. Or a scrawny nerd that can't lift 20 pounds. This is why we get Kratos, Bayonetta, Duke Nukem, Lara Croft, etc. They are visually pleasing and help to satisfy that sexual part in our brain. Humans are sexual creatures and a majority of what we do revolves around sex. That's never going to change.

Besides, video games aren't supposed to be realistic. They're played for fun. If a person is looking at and dissecting the details of it, then they're playing for the wrong reasons and should maybe find a new hobby. To not play this game or similar games to it for the sole reason that "females are too sexy", then you might want to re-evaluate why you play games in the first place.

I agree. Personally its really easy to see a ingame concept model or just concept art of something really cool be overly sexulized. Honestly, I love it when a woman makes an artistic representation as it isnt massively over the top but remains awesome as they dont flaunt everything. Instead, they make it details and look nicely. Atleast, thats what I have run into when image searching concept art.

So you won't play some games for the same reason I only play them? That's cool.

It's mostly some of the cashshop outfits that can get blantantly distasteful for the sake of it imo.

Keyword "some".

Outside of that tho, ya there can be a lot of skirts, bare legs, and heels.

I rock one of those and a dog (?)balloon on my Maewha, the sex appeal omg!!

Not wearing my dress in this pic but check out this totally skimpy outfit that in no way protects my female character cause that's impossible in games:

i want to point out that the way you worded your posts in this thread you are indirectly insulting people who like to wear the sexy and cute clothes that you don't like is also sexist

the game not having the serious clothes you like would be sexist as well but please dont act like people who like that style are below you in some way

you are doing the same thing as the devs but in reverse, they are pushing sexy and cute and you are trying to push serious and insulting the people who like sexy and cute

to go further most males and females like those kinds of looks in games because its an escape from reality, these are video games after all

and from a business standpoint the company is going to go with whats popular

mostly unrelated to the post but ill add it anyway

for me personally as a male i love to play the sexy and cute females on games i dont care if anyone thinks im weird or makes fun of me for it, i love that i can go around and kick butt and look hot/cute/pretty/sexy doing it, its an escape from reality for me and im sure lots of other guys and girls feel the same

In a way i agree. but, some ppl play games for a "Serious" vibe 'specially games like Bdo where Role-play is more common then in other MMO's rather its set up that way from my perspective atleast. Of course female clothes for Fan service isnt a deal breaker for me cause i play as a Tamer (Female only class) not saying i hate nor like it just not goin to make a huge deal over it. you know cause its a Fantasy game as in not real. oh and to those who like Fan service outfits go for it XD more power to you

An option to "Show other players in their default robes" would help the lore/RP al lot. Not to mention the performances in town.
chris183 Jun 26, 2017 @ 2:41am
im not disagreeing that serious clothes should be in the game as well, everyone should have options

i saw the picture of the character from ramsickle and their clothes look nice

Fight like some childish anime? No female characters is underpowered in this game, at all. You're being frustrated by nothing, you can buy outfits, you can buy different armors, as a man playing MMO I don't get offended by over-muscular men. If you ask me, my favorite outfit fit best for the archer, which is a female character. You've been given the wrong impression(P.S I don't play it from steam, but from their actual website.)
Rambo Kitty Jun 26, 2017 @ 7:00am
You can choose non-sexist outfits for women ofcourse but like most MMOs most players choose to dress their toons in sexy outfits, some due to wanting attention, some because they are male players lol and some do it to fit in with the rest of the players... I as a woman myself don't really care what my character wears as long as the game is good and I kill things then thats all what counts for me hehe.
