With how exp gain works in this, everyone's able to play at their own pace and at any point can still group up/grind mobs to level up together at least.
The only downside I can think of is that trading is extremely limited, so if you wanted to give item/resources/money to a friend, you can't.
The correct answer is no.
While grouping up is ok for grinding xp, questing, life skills, and the vast majority of the game is mainly single player. You can't trade or gift items, so there is no friends crafting experience you get in most other mmo's (aka each friend taking a differnt gathering/production skill for the group).
Players must be within 6 levels of each other or take an xp penalty.
imo it is one of the strenghts of the game :
- No more buying gold from gold farmers
- No more fighting the gold farmers to be able to farm, tho in lineage 2 it was fun sometimes and created some great playerdriven storylines.
- Everything you achieve or own is because of your investement of your OWN time and effort.
- No more random peepz begging
- ...
edit: On topic - It is very much fun to play with friends especially at later levels where you can use the extra companions to be able to farm without getting ganked every few minutes.
Also when your friends are not online and you want to stay roughly at the same level as them, you can do LOADS of other things like fishing, cooking, crafting, managing your work empire, grinding contribution points, horse training/catching/breeding, make your house(s) look pretty if that is your thing and so much more.
I was just letting OP know how limited non-combat interactions between friends can be. As Panic Fire said, you can't split professions between friends like in other MMOs, which could be a deal-breaker for some people.
(I mean, thinking back most games always had some sort of xp penalty when grouping with higher lvls, but not enough to make it not worthwhile; being within 6 lvls and how quick 1-50 goes in this does seem like a lot. 50-56 that lvl xp gap does make more sense tho)
