Is the Chess Projector bugged?
It says you need to power it and wind the film, already got the generator running but I can't find anyway to wind the film. The "Play Film" option has a very narrow window where you can look at it to interect so I'm thinking the levers might be bugged

My friend had the same issue. We switched roles and I was able to wind it, so you might try that.

I'm currently looking in to the issue, however we are not able to replicate it we have a potential fix prepared for the next patch.

looks like the bug is still: power up, put film in, rewind, play but the screen is white

had the bug as well, windows, AMD processor. The intro video bugs as well, freezing for about 3 minutes until it starts playing and then you can't skip it.

I am unable to unfreeze the pawns in the explorer's role and I am unable to rewind the film in the librarian's role.

I got the same bug. Here's a link to the output_log.txt file from the game folder. There's an error that looks to be related:

"windowsVideoMedia error 0x800700ea while reading [etc]/We Were Here_Data/sharedassets0.resource

Context: createobjectFromByteStream
Error details: More data is available."

We had severe issues at first but carefully got through them by waiting for the explorer to power the generator first (not sure if this is necessary), then carefully picked up the film and placed it on the projector only when the film sort of "clicked" into place on the wheel sticking out the back of the projector, then turned the crank on the bottom, and then flipped the switch on the side. We had severe issues where if you DROP the film (by not letting it "click" into place above and just kind of dropping it), it just rolls away and then after the second attempt you can't even pick it up again.
