Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World

Is it worth in 2025?
I currently have become obsessed with Monster Hunter due to Rise, I was recommended to play that as a start as the game was “easier than World for newbs” as it was explained to me. I plan to get World soon, plus Wilds, is MHW still worth it?

Yes, absolutely worth it. Go get a key on sale from some other website; it's usually only a $15 game if you shop around a bit. And the DLC Iceborne is borderline essential; they stuck a bunch of QoL improvements in there, and there's so much endgame content stuffed into it that you'll still be at it 500 hours later.
I wonder how much life the MHW servers have left in them... with Wilds already on the horizon. I wouldn't be surprised if Capcom pulled the plug on them sooner rather than later.

49k peak today, still in the top 100 most played games on Steam (#85). I absolutely would be surprised if Capcom pulled the plug anytime soon.

That data is publicly available and I'm aware of it. Interesting would be to see online players in World during Q2 period, where I imagine WIlds will peak instead. Anyway, as to why would Capcom want to eventually cannibalize World is simple. I'm just curious how it will unfold... corporations poaching their own IPs is a fascinating subject on its own to me. I would guess that they will kill off online services on consoles first and then they might try to do the same on PC, but I bet if they ever go that way there will be some community connectivity mod/utility of sorts to keep online alive at least in some fashion.

Back in January 2018 however, Capcom themselves stated the following plans about World:
Monster Hunter: World Devs on DLC Updates: "It's Not Like a Service" The team behind the newest Monster Hunter wants to keep you playing post-launch, but not forever. Don't expect to be playing Monster Hunter: World five years down the line though. "We definitely don't plan this game to be a five or 10-year client, where you buy it and then you have content for the next decade. We always have had a really rich post-launch experience for Monster Hunter players, with lots of free DLC and extra quests. And, as we recently announced, there will be regular large free updates for Monster Hunter: World, starting with the first one in spring with an extra monster," Monster Hunter: World Producer Ryozo Tsujimoto told Metro's GameCentral.

I'm playing this right now with the same question yesterday.
def worth it! Some world exclusive monsters are really nice, nerg is wonderful, kulve taroth is S tier... alatreon and fatalis too. It really has its charm. Sure you are slower cuz no dog, but, you really feel the timing more and have to play with how you know the monster moves and all. I personally like the combat a lot more w out the bugs. Clutch claw is really good, despite all the hate it gets. Theres a way to use it and not get thrown all the time, and forcing 2 monsters to crash into each other, then KO them feels really good. World's maps are better than rise IMO.

Go for it, wilds is gonna be a worse game than world anyways.

Wilds isn’t even out yet, what makes you think it’s gonna be worse by just watching a trailer if you haven’t even played it yet?

monster hunter:world was fine (as in, balance near perfect) till capcom thought 'hey why dont i add the clutch claw and force a bunch of heavy handed nerfs to basically get people to be forced to buy iceborne?'

capcom isn't immune from bad decisions, iceborne has a 'mixed' reputation for a reason, and its not due to the monster hunter movie lol

Absolutely. World will play a little different than Rise, but both fifth gen games are really good and fun to play. It's also probably the closest experience to Rise among the series, so it'll be the easiest to get used to.It also seems to go on sale every now and then, and that's a great time to scoop up both base game and Iceborn

Look, I feel the same way about the clutchclaw as you, but let's not pretend that the DRMs used and the character deletion bug on release aren't the main reason why steam reviews for iceborne are mixed.
Monster Hunter World is totally worth it. It's actually the most successful Monster Hunter game in the franchise's history, and it still holds up today, even with it no longer getting new content. And with 40-50k players on daily, there's no shortage of people to play with.

Please lord, not the movie...

I even forgot there's collab for it once upon a time

Go for it. At least if in some strange situation when you get Wilds and it happen to be unoptimized mess, you can play World while waiting CAPCOM to get it right - or straight up wait until they release expansion for it. Just go get it along with Iceborne also, WIlds gameplay isn't farcry from World anyway.

This is EXACTLY what I'm doing, I started the franchise on Rise and will NOT waste my money on wilds till it's optimized, so I'm playing World for the first time and am having a blast so far, totally totally worth it 1,000,000%
