what to go to after max level defender weapon?
feels like, the hammer at least, doesn't have any strong counterparts when you factor in the extra damage blast does through a fight? i'm about to fight barrioth so obviously, the anjanath hammer would be decent for that fight specifically but aside from that i'm pretty lost. suggestions?

short term its better to stick with the ore tree or the bone tree as those materials can be obtained quickly. the game has a rather steep powercreep curve although you might not have noticed that yet. its hardly worth farming monster materials for weapons until you reach weapon level 10.

if the defender weapon still has more atk than the bone weapon than the defender weapon is still the best weapon you can equip.
Defender gear is a little overpowered even in the beginning of Master Rank.

You're still using defender weapons in iceborne? No wonder why so many players complains about the difficulty spike between high rank and master rank.

not complaining about the difficulty spike, infact haven't really noticed any actual "difficulty" spike lol. i'm well versed with almost all these monsters patterns, it's not just the attack power i'm looking for but also at least blue sharpness, early bone isn't too great in MR when you factor in its sharpness vs the mult from white sharpness defender weapon on attack, that's why i'm confused as to where to really go after this though i've yet to go into mr3 where i'm pretty sure nargacuga is so i may switch to a gun build.

Defender is overpowered by +2 Rarity.

Defender V is R7, roughly equivalent to normal R9 weapons. Most R9 will be worse unless the monster is very weak to element AND resistant to Blast. So you only really need to upgrade to R10.

Anja hammer is probably a downgrade because of negative affinity and blue sharpness.

Suggest which specific hammer is better than Defender V against Barioth at that point in progression then.

i mean yeah, after taking the bloat away the diff in attack between Def V and r9 bone is 10 attack, 35 def which isn't gonna do a huge amount vs mr3 and a 3 slot i don't have a useful deco for lol. you're right i'ma just wait
I didn't use defender weapons but I remember when I was playing with hammer I actually ditched "monster weapons" for kurogane in the ore tree, which served me quite well, but there's also the Buona Florescenza in the pukei-pukei tree which is way better

kurogane II and buona florescenzaa are both rarity 10 with white sharpness, but the buona has significantly higher damage, better sharpness, better decoration slots and free poison to boot, pretty sure I used it as my "generic hammer" until I was able to upgrade the elder dragon hammers from highrank which I recall being slightly better (only slightly despite being rarity 12) which I used until I got the lightbreak hammer
most of the hammers made from monster parts didn't seem particularly good to me until late into master-rank
that's just me though and I didn't really think too much about it at the time, they served me very well but there's probably something better still
if hammer you should probably go diablos

then after you beat barioth you can do the event quest 50 shades of white. that event quest will get you guild palace hammer which is crazy good and you can kinda just stick with that hammer for the rest of the story

it might be having not been able to sleep but i found the 50 shades quest a lot harder than regular barioth, mainly for the "you can't restock" thing, glad they removed that in arena based fights in rise lol

Barioth is a trip in world. Real problem monster until you break one of his arms. You only have to beat it twice minimum though for an incredible hammer that scales extremely well into postgame though. The guild palace weapons in general are overtuned for when they become available in general. Then again they dropped like what a week before safi or something? It’s weird I remember they were meta for like a week and then were immediately outclassed, but when playing through the game again they are crazy strong for a long while.

i at first intended to augment that guild palace level 10 HH, sad awakening when i had to notice that i can only augment stuff at the end of a tree.

that barioth seems to have more HP than the regular version, it took me longer than i had expected.

maybe urgaan hammer. It has a defense boost, and its raw is high.

defender weapon is at 1144 x 1.32 sharpness bonus, so its about 1510
urgaan is 1300 x 1.2( blue) so 1560

defender stops growing now, so its going to get outclassed. Its supposed to be the best high rank weapon
