start an online session??

i dont want to start an online session, but thats the only option it gives when trying to play my character

is there no offline mode in this game?

Start a session in friends only mode, and then turn off your network connection.

You'll get a message showing up that you've mysteriously been disconnected from the capcom server and the game is continuing in offline mode.

So yeah, there is, you just can't start one by default.

i have options for open lobby, friends only and something about id's?

whats the id's bit of that selection mean?
is that like invite only or something?

i dont mind being online per se as long as nobody can join my game unless i absolutely want them to. i do want the login bonuses and event stuff really

If I remember, you can set up the lobby so that only folks with the lobby ID can join, not even friends.

If it's a three part code? Yeah, that's the lobby ID. Don't give it out? No one can join at all.

ID is a short random code. Anyone with the ID will be able to join your session. You'll see people post session IDs on the forum sometimes when they ask for help.

You can use that if you want to play solo but online for event quests.

If by you mean offline mean offline from the get go, then you can run steam in offline mode and start the game. You'll skip entire matchmaking thing and start the game. The catches? You can't play event quest.

Other than that, just follow what other just suggest. Might also want to turn your steam friend list into invisible if you really don't want anyone see you play the game and nag you for the lobby ID.
