Iai Slash/Iai Spirit Slash
I just started using longsword and mostly I'm doing fine with the weapon. The only thing I'm having hard time to use it correctly is Iai spirit slash. I'm trying to time it when monster attacking me but I mostly failing it. Is this like dark souls parry or nah? I'm having hard time to understand this attack. ''Time this against a monster's attack to repeatedly connect with the attack and keep your spirit gauge up.'' This is what it is says in the weapon control page. What am I doing wrong?

Foresight Slash with <10% spirit gauge bar has 13 frames.
Foresight Slash with >10% spirit gause bar has 45 frames... without evade window.
Iai Spirit Slash with no spirit gauge level has 12 frames.
Iai Spirit Slash at any spirit gauge level has 14 frames.

Go practice and git gut.

Oh, and one more thing: your behaviour is childish.

Imagine when you are pressing the Iai Slash button (R2/RT), your character whole hitbox has 6 or so (out of 60fps) frames where if an active damaging hitbox touches it, it will nullify any incoming damage (outside of active DoT like fire or bleed). Any monster's attack with an active hurtbox moving towards your character is usually a good moment to pull off an Iai slash.

Some Example of this are; Nergigante hand jabs and his hand sweeps, Odogaron's jabs, Teostra's side drift bite, etc

Of course, if you feel like even if you pull of a successful Iai slash, you are going to get hit, just remember that Iai draw(Y/triangle) has the same i-frames as a successful Iai slash. But with the draw, you can chain it into a foresight slash. Thus avoiding a possible incoming 2nd attack from a monster's combo wombo.

PS: a successful Iai draw/slash will not nullify incoming Pin/Burn/Bleed/Poison/Para. I would personally always take a bleed or burn to my face, but gold rath poison or para, or any Pin attacks might not be a good idea to pull it off on them.

Also assuming you've played Demon's Souls, just imagine the Iai timing is as tight as the parry timing in DeS. Hope this helps.
What is Iai draw exactly? Are you talking about Fade Slash? I never tried to combo anything yet. I'm trying to learn how things work right now but I will do it after I get used to everything. Thanks for the tips!

Also thanks for explaining Iai Slash. I thought lv3 is the Iai Spirit Slash and lv1 and lv2 is Iai Slash. I was thinking when you have red gauge(lv3) it's some kind of different attack. Thanks for pointing that out lol. I was just using Iai Slash to increase my spirit gauge lol

Iai Draw is the move where you press Y/Triangle after the Iai Sheath. It works the same as the Iai Spirit Slash, nullifying damage wise. And can be chained into a Foresight Slash (R2+O/B) for a quick dodge after.

Edit: My mistake. The Y/Triangle after the Iai Sheath is actually called Iai Slash. I'm sorry if I've confused you with the naming of the moves.

Ok you were talking about Iai Slash then lol. Iai Slash = Iai Draw. Everything is crystal clear now thanks for helping!

Yeah. For some reason I've always thought that move is called Iai Draw Slash. Hence my false information. Hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

ISS has longer i-frames than IS so it's much tougher to time IS to avoid getting hit. ISS timing is pretty tight as others have said, but usually if you can hit the button right before the monster is about to land its attack, it should work. This takes a lot of practice and experience since you need to know how fast the incoming attack will be. If you perform ISS correctly and evade an attack, you'll see a blue flash on your character, the signature DING will sound, and you won't lose a level of spirit gauge.

Ooh I think I saw that blue flash while timing foresight slash correctly too. Good to know and thank you for the tips! :csce_wormmon:
