I suggest picking a couple you like and sticking to that. Crafting new weapons gets expensive so switching to something completely new will be grindy.

Personally I play with a gunlance and switch to greatsword if I need more DPS.

Also maybe give LBG a try if you play with mouse and keyboard, pure easy mode lol
If you hesitate, go on. But if you realize some monster is hard to deal with with your current main weapon, start branching out. There's training ground to test out combo and weapon mechanic. Use it. Alongside with video tutorial for reference.

i like to stick with 1 weapon and its not the way to go tbh lol its a pain in the ass some monsters are jsut gross to fight with my weapons ! the best hunters will adapt and change weapons depending on monster!

Depends on how easily you can jump from one weapon from the next tbh. I personally can't, so I just stick to one at a time and play whatever weapon seems interesting for that playthrough, preferring weapons that I haven't touched in a long time

depending on what weapons you jump between, it can get grindy to have setups for each weapon you're comfortable with. Other than that, there's nothing wrong in experimenting with weapon types however you like. It would probably even be a good idea to have up-to-date builds for a few weapons if this is your first time with the franchise.

Stick to the one weapon that gives you the feeling of personal power. Master it an then you can become weapon-sexual with other weapons.

I prefer to keep a few available just in case of a bad match up. I like hunting horn and lance but sometime you just need to unleash your inner beyblade and pick up the dual blades when the monster won't hold still.

There is no should or must here. You do what you want to do. If playing different weapons is more interesting for you, then do just that. The only thing that could become a bit problematic as time goes on is having to maintain multiple weapons at the same time. I did a playthrough where I switched weapons each 5 hunts, and while at the start it wasn't that bad, when I started crafting higher and higher rarity weapons the material requirements forced me to spend a lot of time grinding, more than usual.
It's worth having a couple weapons to keep the gameplay fresh. I bounce between lance, hammer and heavy bowgun
Some attacks can be canceled into a roll.
Some attacks have super armor.
Some attacks have a weird range that exceeds the animation.
Some attacks act different when the weapon gets drawn with them.
Some attacks dont bounce off while others already do, at the same exhausted weapon durability.

A few things about weapons might not be immediately obvious, same is true for other stuff like rolling through enemy attacks, you might never notice that you can do that when using a fast or ranged weapon.
between weapons in this game they all have a really different difficulty spikes, and some would spark the best on a specific type of monsters (Or the Monster specificly)

mastering 1 weapon is atleast something that a must, cuz with that atleast later on u have 1 weapon that ur good to go with.

but like u said trying new weapon every 5 quest so on means u would have to adapt a lot everytime u change weapon ofcourse (and some wld be painful to learn if ur fighting a difficult monster obviously)

but that's the fun part of this game, using all the various weapons type and learning all of em! so go wild with ur weapon choice and see what sticks to u :>
1 weapon can handle any monster, but for the sake of variety... choose at least 2. Each weapon is very well designed and fun to try.

I used to be greatsword only, then I tried switch axe, hammer and dual blades. Its made the experience much more fun.

weapon match up is a thing.

Try every single one of them, until you find something that "clicks" with you.
And I don’t mean a hunt, or 10: watch videos even, to see what a weapon can become when used for hundreds of hours.
Make an informed decision then and dedicate yourself wholly to master a single weapon among them all. The one you like the most.
And only when you’ve mastered that one, switch to another.
