Guard level
Guard Point adds 2 levels of Guard skill
Charged shield adds 2 points of Guard skill

You have Guard 0 to Guard 5 from armour and jewels
In total, you can reach "Guard 9". 5 from armour + GP + charged shield

Higher level of Guard will reduce the amount of knockback, stamina, and sharpness lost from blocking.

If the knockback is too high, you cannot counter-attack after the guard (e.g. cannot shortcut to SAED).

Only odd numbers of Guard level matters, rounded down. Guard 2 is the same as Guard 1. 4 is the same as 3, etc.

Guard Up
Guard Up is a separate skill, it does not add Guard levels. It lets you block some attacks that are normally unblockable like most "laser" attacks. Those attacks still need a certain Guard level to reduce the knockback/stamina/sharpness loss.

Perfect guard

WORLD does not have a CB mechanic called "Perfect Guard". WILDS does.

In World, the description for Offensive Guard skill says "perfectly-timed guard" which means you need to guard (or Guard Point) just before you get hit, to activate the Offensive Guard bonus. That is the only thing related to guarding and perfect timing in MHW.

Example
For example, a certain attack causes a big knockback with Guard 3. You cannot counter.

If you increase your armour skill to Guard 5, or Charge your Shield, or Guard Point, it will be reduced to medium knockback. You can counter.

If you reach Guard 7 total, it will be reduced to small knockback. You can counter faster.

if i press block (LT Button) right before the monster attack hits me will it perfume to a guard point?

or it will only perfume the normal block like when you hold (LT Button) , and i don't increase my guard point to level 2?

Guard Point only happens with the animation of certain attacks, when the shield is facing forward at the same time you get hit.

Normal blocks (holding RT) can never be Guard Points.

The only effect of timing normal blocks (RT) is to activate Offensive Guard.

He did the Morph to Axe Guard Point (in sword mode, RT+Y). The shield is facing forward on the 1st frame of Morph to Axe, I think. That's why it can be used instantly.

Btw typo in our previous replies, block is RT not LT (I was tired and just repeated without thinking)

Yes it's the fastest and most common GP since you're in sword mode.

You can practice safely by holding RT early, then press Y to GP. So even if you miss the GP timing, you're still blocking. But that won't activate Offensive Guard.

For Offensive Guard you must press both RT+Y (or only RT) right before getting hit.

Yes, depends on the knockback.

GP adds 2 Guard levels
-> which reduces the knockback from big to medium, or medium to small
-> so you can counter faster

then if i have level 5 guard point via equipments and the monster can do level 3 knockback then no need for guard point , i can normal block and do my saed as like guard pointing it through morph to axe move?
Yes, you can normal guard an attack and go straight to SAED. I wouldn’t think too hard about a level 3 guard vs a level 5 knockback move or whatever. Just remember that charging your shield, and using guard points, will increase the strength of your guard. You’ll learn a lot by playing the game and going by feel.

Another difference between normal guard and guard point that wasn’t mentioned yet. When your shield is charged, guard pointing a monster attack will cause a little phial explosion which will deal damage and add KO buildup on the monster. You can knock a monster down to the ground just from guard points.

To practice guard points you can fight a low rank diablos and guard point the move where he runs at you like a bull. Make sure your shield is charged to get the phial explosions. At this point don’t worry about doing the SAED after the guard point. Just block the move and let him run past you. Eventually one of your blocks will totally stop him and he’ll fall over from KO and It’ll feel amazing. By doing this practice it’ll give you more confidence to guard point other monster attacks.

Great Advice bro really appreciate , so to be sure morph to axe is the main move to guard points right it seems easier then sliding slash gp or unsheath gp
