Community organized speedrunning is also a thing.
but challenge runs could be some fun todo right? in any of the enviroments challenge runs where we have to adapt could be fun against the 3 other players as the enviroment is less controlled compared to the arena
you can get something together with people and do challenge run style stuff, theres been plenty of videos of people doing similar stuff
actually thinking about it, im reminded a bit of the treasure hunter quests from freedom unite.. I have no idea if they were multiplayer, genuinely dont remember, but the goal was to get the most "points", and rarer items would give more points. you were put on the map with zero items and had to go gathering / hunting and just figure it out. having some official competitive modes like that would be pretty interesting i think
how about a race to see who can get the most shiny drops from a monster? i already do that with my friends, would be fun if it was an actual race :D just throw players in a map with random monsters and go crazy
i just dont think having an official mode where you race to kill or do the most damage to the monster specifically would be the best idea, unless everyone has the same set equipment or items at the start of the quest (like the arena quests), theres too many different ways to unfairly pull ahead of other players otherwise (like imagine an endgame sticky spam build vs a newer mid-game greatsword player as a random example)
Video for reference.
you're right about with the eguipment so maybe everyone in said challenge run has an hour at best to gather everything they need while starting with just a sword and shield and of course the crafting of everything is streamlined so everything can be made with the bare minimum to craft and only what is gathered on said challenge useable for crafting
no pre-prepared stuff for said challenge run only what you know of any of the areas so you can quickly gather everything you need to get better eguipment than said sword and shield along with the upgrades to the armour
it could be fun to see video or streams about said challenges where everyone is going against their friends or against other people they randomly meet
These games were designed around cooperation, not competition.
Competitive games are miserable
No thanks, keep it the way it is, that's why I love it
of course there is still the 2 hour preperation period where you should gather and craft everything you need before the actual fight against a designated monster in the area everyone is dropped with just a sword and shield and no armour
and said thing could still be called challenge run unless you guys have any objection to the naming convention
