challenge runs in monster hunter
i do think the only kind of PVP which could work in monster hunter is challenge runs where everyone is trying to achieve a set goal against eachother to see who can do it faster

of course if say we had to carry anything from where they're in the world someone could easily take advantage of the other challengers who are dealing with the monsters

any monster game has the potential for this kind of challenge runs or challenge runs with who finds a specific monster first and takes it down i'm sure it could be fun to challenge one self against others to see how well you can compete against them
it's just a thing i just thought of and it's not directly against other players as i say as it is run to see who can finish said challenge fastest or best or however said score is meassured

Arena quests exist already.
Community organized speedrunning is also a thing.

i sort of knew arena quests existed but the community organized speedrunning i didn't
but challenge runs could be some fun todo right? in any of the enviroments challenge runs where we have to adapt could be fun against the 3 other players as the enviroment is less controlled compared to the arena

well you could do a no hit run if you want challenge. but not the same run that team dark side do. if you're HP got a tick you delete you're save now that a challenge. if you could do it you're be the first in the world.
theres already been things like this, first thing that pops into my head was the tri alatreon quest where naked people raced to get as many well done steaks as possible
you can get something together with people and do challenge run style stuff, theres been plenty of videos of people doing similar stuff

actually thinking about it, im reminded a bit of the treasure hunter quests from freedom unite.. I have no idea if they were multiplayer, genuinely dont remember, but the goal was to get the most "points", and rarer items would give more points. you were put on the map with zero items and had to go gathering / hunting and just figure it out. having some official competitive modes like that would be pretty interesting i think
how about a race to see who can get the most shiny drops from a monster? i already do that with my friends, would be fun if it was an actual race :D just throw players in a map with random monsters and go crazy

i just dont think having an official mode where you race to kill or do the most damage to the monster specifically would be the best idea, unless everyone has the same set equipment or items at the start of the quest (like the arena quests), theres too many different ways to unfairly pull ahead of other players otherwise (like imagine an endgame sticky spam build vs a newer mid-game greatsword player as a random example)

In Monster Hunter 2 there was a PvEvP where 2 teams of hunters tried to hunt the other teams monster faster than each other. https://youtu.be/Hlo54q-kC0E
Video for reference.

you're right about with the eguipment so maybe everyone in said challenge run has an hour at best to gather everything they need while starting with just a sword and shield and of course the crafting of everything is streamlined so everything can be made with the bare minimum to craft and only what is gathered on said challenge useable for crafting
no pre-prepared stuff for said challenge run only what you know of any of the areas so you can quickly gather everything you need to get better eguipment than said sword and shield along with the upgrades to the armour
it could be fun to see video or streams about said challenges where everyone is going against their friends or against other people they randomly meet

It would be pointless, Arena is already underused but even now if you look at the global arena rankings its all cheaters that completed it with less than 4 seconds.

These games were designed around cooperation, not competition.

MH is about joy, warmth, and working together. There are sweats but overall it's wonderful

Competitive games are miserable

No thanks, keep it the way it is, that's why I love it
as i think about it maybe instead compete against eachother in a PVE world everyone compete against the enviroment with permanent debuffs ranging from minor to major debuffs which is randomly appointed
of course there is still the 2 hour preperation period where you should gather and craft everything you need before the actual fight against a designated monster in the area everyone is dropped with just a sword and shield and no armour
and said thing could still be called challenge run unless you guys have any objection to the naming convention
