Whats a good solo Weapon?
Was thinking about heading back to World. And wanted to solo monsters, this time. I'm a lil new, was thinking about picking the hammer or heavy blowgun.

I think most weapons would be good solo weapons. You should pick whatever you think looks the most fun and what you think you would enjoy the most.
i recommend for easy mode, insect glaive or longsword
however i dont recommend ranged cuz it makes the game FAR too easy
If you're playing solo then you'll want something that can sever tails. I would recommend lance. It's an extremely mobile weapon with great potential for mounting, stunning, breaking any part of a monster plus it has that beautiful shield. I don't see many scenarios where the lance isn't an effective weapon for a solo player.

There are some arenas where you can be running up walls and dive bombing monsters practically non-stop, it's hilarious.

All of them are fine to play solo with, Hammer is a lot of fun so that's definitely a +1 from me.

Consider the greatshield weapons. Both because they're amazing and they can forgive virtually any bad position + tail slicing

Every weapon.
if you are new to the saga then I would always recommend sword and shield or hammer, they are the best class to learn the basics of the gameplay and the most easy to access (but not to master, remember it), ranged weapon such both bowguns have a weird progression, the more you advance in the storyline the more they get easy and effective, so I wouldn't really recommend playing both bowguns in the early stage of the game (plus they need A LOT of building, farming and economy of bullets and materials to be always functional)

All of them
i can only talk about lbg, hh and insect glaive.

from those id easily recommend the insect glaive for a beginner. im currently using it.
the triangle attack has almost no recovery frames, the circle is fast and comes with forward movement. The damage output is good. the jumping and kinsect stuff exists but can be ignored, luckily one of the kinsects is rather small, so it doesnt look as ugly.

The HH feels more like a real weapon to slay a monster with, it has more commitment to attacks, more range and some super armor.

any weapon is doable solo, easily, depends what you're looking for in how combat feels. you should try out the hammer and HBG like you want to and see how you vibe with em, then try other stuff when you want to. never feel like you have to rush, I learned everything at least a little bit, just picking up what I felt like at the time, and it's been a blast. 95% of the time I play solo too, so it's all doable

Longsword has always been great to me.
Longsword.

You don't get Dark Souls level invincibility when rolling and evading in MH:W, but you sure can take advantage of the longsword counter (foresight slash) as both an offensive and defensive option.

I can't put it down since the first time I used it to survive the Teostra nuke.

A Viking should either swing an Axe or a Sword - whatever that means>>

All weapons are fine solo even Hunting Horn.
If you want speed kills pretty sure ranged weapons are always fastest killers in this game.
But you take 30% dmg with range weapons, so if you make mistake you will cart.
