base game = drachen armor and some gamma parts (i used nergigante)
iceborne = fatalis

Base game, as above.
IB, most use mix of raging brachy, Teostra, Safi Jiiva, and then in the end, Fatalis.
All of these are endgame/near endgame monsters, so just mostly focus on the skills:
Health boost (for IB)
Crit eye
Crit boost
Tenderizer
And any other survival armor skills you'd like, like evade window (highly recommended imho), divine blessing, etc

He said no iceborne....
Also don't pass the opportunity to fight AT elder dragons before IB

working your way up to end game iceborne there are a few decent armor sets out there with decent effects, Velkhana's frostcraft set bonus is quite fun to use, the armor itself (aside from gamma set) will look lack luster, but its a solid choice considering how longsword plays. till you can make this set, pretty much focus on anything that gives you crit and the like, maybe even try for kirin armor so you can have great luck armor for farming in.

Also, two parts that you might want are kirins chest (crit eye 2 on beta 3 on alpha, don't remember the slots) and garuga legs (crit eye 2 with 1lvl4 and 2 lvl2)

Base game 4pc Drachen for Master's Touch and stack crit. In Iceborne, depending on your skill level you can honestly just hold onto that until you get MR Teostra or if you wanted something new, 3pc Narga armor for True Razor Sharp isn't bad for sharpness mitigation. 3pc MR Teostra gives you Master's Touch (again) and that's basically the best thing with 2pc Raging Brachy for Agitator Secret until you can get Fatalis gear. 4pc Fatalis gives you True Razor Sharp and a ton of decoration slots + the convenience of always having 200hp+stamina even after you die.

Just don't switch to a different armor that doesn't utilize 4pc fatalis

Glavenus armor set gives maximum might! Don't sleep on that skill when you're lacking rarer jewels. It helped me so much going through the story. This route is for people who can survive lacking some survival skills. If you can't try piecing together more survival oriented builds, but they will make your hunts last way longer. When you're done with the story though, it becomes useless as there are far better choices for armor as people have mentioned. definitely shoot for 3 piece teostra for Master Touch and Raging Brachydios agitator secret 2 piece set bonus.

Maximum might without the secret skill is pretty bad in iceborne. Also, no dps skills doesn't make hunts take that much longer, you are probably only adding a few minutes in. Regardless though, Wex, crit eye are both very easy to slot in and are much better then maximum might.
