A Noob's Observation on Fatalis Hunts
Oh wow another thread on Fatalis, shocker. Except this isn't directly about Fatalis itself, it's about you, or more accurately, your mistakes. It seems so many people do not know the basics of the Fatalis hunt. I've only hunted it once successfully while playing with others, each and every other time was a massive failure. Throughout these failures I've noticed a few recurring things that happen pretty much every single time I join a quest online for Fatalis.

Dust of Life: when you start the quest, there are 4 Dust of Lifes in the item box. Easily 75%+ of people I play with NEVER take them. There's one for each of you, and at the very least you should be bringing your own ones anyway. It's a tough fight and we all make mistakes. It can mean the difference between success and failure.

Flinch Shot: Two issues with the flinch shot I see. The first is that most people don't even bother to do it. The second is that people are doing it wrong. DO NOT use the flinch shot on Fatalis while it's on 2 legs. It only deals about 20% of the damage it would do when it is on all 4 legs. Each successful flinch shot is over 3000 damage. Sometimes when you mount Fatalis it's on all 4 legs, but then it stands up before you flinch it. DO NOT flinch it, it won't count, so either soften its head or jump off and try again. It has got to be on all 4's just when you flinch it. It's 3000 free damage each time, utilise it.

One Shot Binders: There are 2 one shot binders on the map. The first is after the first nova when you hide behind the metal 'covering' in the corner. The binder is directly behind you in the direction towards the castle's entrance. The second is in the opposite side to the first, best used after the second nova when you have to retreat into the castle. Go towards the right of the map as you exit the castle and the binder is near the ballista turret there.

Eating: Eat for Felyne Safeguard or Moxie. Simples.

I see so many people complain about the hunt, and I would wager that most of them are the people I'm talking about here who ignore or aren't even aware of the above. None of us are perfect, not even those who can solo Fatalis in 10 minutes. But the above is fairly basic information that should be known by most people, especially when hunting online. The bugger has carted me more times than I can count. And yet most people I see rarely do anymore than one of the above.

Feel free to add anymore useful tips, these are just some basic things I see so few people doing, hence why it's mostly always mission failed. I know there's the strategy of one person wearing a guille mantle while everyone waits in camp at the start of the hunt, filling the 2 cannons and firing them at Faty.

When mounting, DO. NOT. JUMP. OFF.
Utilize it, if you got them, use dragon pods to flinch him so he doesn't keep moving around.
Knock him down and you got yourselves another opening for the head

Note on the flinch shot, when he's on two legs you can get him on all 4s with a flinch shot as long as you do no claw attacks. Then just go for the wall smash as you normally would.

If you have a CC/Status effect like LBG or HBG on your team, ask if they want to paralyze it before using the first Roaming Ballista. If yes, help him tenderize it. A full salvo on Fatalis's head is the biggest damage you can do to its face.

For the same reason, if someone put Fatalis to sleep in front of the dragonator, ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ WAIT for the SLEEP ANIMATION TO FINISH. It sleeps for TWO MINUTES. Sharpen, place bombs, poison smoke bomb it, buff. THEN pull the dragonator to wake it up. You have time. (Yes, I know, some muh deebs leets say "I duh moh deebs!" Yes, of course. But if you're joining SOS or people are struggling to finish the fight, then they would prefer breather and FREE damage rather than struggling for their lives to fight for it.)

During phase 2, fight in the middle or as close to the gate as possible to ensure everyone has enough time to get there when the nova starts. This seems pretty basic, but people are too stressed during the fight to realize they're on the other side of the courtyard. Spam ping if you have to.

At the startup of the 360 flame breath (head is bent to the side and charging), If you are close to Fatalis position yourself at the opposite side of where the head is and stand behind the front leg. This is a big opportunity for you to deal damage and stay safe from the fire. If you are too far, then sheathe and prepare to dive.

If you see the same startup animation but he is on 2 legs, then stand directly in front of him.

The novas in phase 3 are cone shaped. Run diagonally to the left or right of Fatalis to get out of the fire faster.

oh look another pointless rant about randos with a few obvious advices, while the average rando will never visit this forum

simply create a fatalis guide, if you desperately want to help others
oh look someone already made a pretty detailed one
