If you're not, you can craft Defender weapons for pretty good options before you go deeper into the actual weapon trees.
However, there are certain weapons that you can create from base materials without needing to build from scratch. Check the "forge" option for the specific ones.
You can also meld R8 Kulve weapons and quickly upgrade them to R12 via MR Kulve materials.
If you don't mind restricting yourself to those monsters, that's the best solution.
safi and kulve weapons arent even crafted but dropped and get upgraded differently.
the weapon tree is pretty much irrelevant endgame wise.
so dont overconcern yourself with it.
