A perfect block is pretty much what you said. Easily activated by countering or guard stepping. Power guard never activates.
You don't need any stamina skills for lance, I've not touched any while using it.
Each weapon have a different playstyle, so just try many weapons and play the ones with which you are more confortable and get more fun. At least if you aren't going to make speedruns.
better don't rely too much on guard there is alot of stuff in masterrank which can still kill you when you try to block

only hr pins
mr monster will troll you if you try to block their pin attack
savage jho is a good example
Edit: changed from 3 to 5 hits
Thanks for the list
I really hope it's the case of the person having low level or no guard skill and maybe low defense stat
I don't mind having to build my char to suit my playstyle as long as it's actually a viable playstyle
I want to get the hang of the lance's footwork but , if i had to rely on hops more then in my Shield i would have choosen a dodge based weapon
Let me see if i understood, you mean not every pin attack is blockable with guard up skill ?
There's 5 levels of it, the highest with the most beneficial outcome when it comes to Lance.
Ofc, however, you don't need too high of the Guard armor skill
