Layered armor, info would be nice

Ok, so me and my buddy have been playing Iceborne, and we just killed Velkhana, Rank 10/11 gear, etc. and we have yet to see any other layered armor aside from Dire wolf, the free set from Iceborne beginning.

I've read several things that say we are supposed to have a bunch of layered armor unlocked or available already, but we have seen none and unlocked none. Really confused/lost on what to do to get more layered armor pieces/sets. There are no additional sets in the forger to craft either, outside of an eye patch.

So what are we missing/need to do to get layered armor sets? thanks. PC btw.

Go through the event schedule and look for the event quests that give you items that allow you to craft layered armors.

After you beat Iceborne main story and enter Guiding Lands, you can get monster materials that are only obtainable from Guiding Lands that can be used to craft high rank layered armor based on the monster.

Aside from event layered armor, you need to unlock guiding land and farm the monsters there to unlock monster layered armor, cmiiw.

Most of those new layered armor that you can craft are actually under the HR (not MR) tab, and they require materials from guiding lands. These are the old armors from the base game which you can now use as layered armors.

The MR ones are quite few and most are locked behind events or arenas.

I would also suggest simply looking at a wiki or something to double check you’ve done all the low rank and high rank event quests for layered armor as well. You might also have to wait till the next seasonal event for all the quests you want to come back.

lots of iceborne armor sets were either events or guiding lands related...

Only non event related one I can think of is thermae. which you get for getting two tickets from delivering two hot spring rocks. It is tied to a quest. I do not remember the name, but there is an egg displayed instead of a monster.
