Don't announce it in chat.
I hope so. I just don't wanna risk 280+ hours of progress, that's why i opened this thread.
Also be aware that mods can cause issues for which Capcom won't provide support. Make a backup of your savedata before installing as a necessary precaution. Some issues caused by mods can't be solved so it's always a risk to install them.
Capcom in general does not approve of mod usage, but no bans have been issued as of yet. Their stance on this might chance in the future and they might eventually start issuing bans if they want so use mods at your own risk.
I hope this answers your question.
There's no basis for this comment at all, as there cannot possibly have been a statistical analysis on who does or doesn't approve of mods.
I personally don't use an overlay but I like when others use them - posting the damage in the chat helps me understand my relative effectiveness during a hunt. This personal preference of mine, however, doesn't automatically make me think 'most' players approve of overlays.
Do whatever you want OP, you know the risks.
A lot of people complain on the forums about this particular mod and most people disapprove of it when communicating about it here, hence my earlier statement.
I've rarely seen people respond positively when the information that this cheat provides is shared in the chat, though that's merely my anecdotal experience.
The main complaint is that it gives you information that was never intended to be known. It's more of a cheat then an actual mod.
When this information is posted in the chat it can create a toxic and competitive atmosphere while Monster Hunter World is a game that is meant to be played cooperatively.
That's basically why this mod is so heavily frowned upon in the community and why so many people harbour a negative opinion about this mod.
It's a nice tool to see how well you're doing, but big DPS isn't the most important thing.
Most casual players don't care about meta and speedrun and just want to hunt and have fun.
A DPS Meter is a mighty tool, which can as every mighty tool can be abused, but even if we
remove the DPS Meter and Stagger/HP Valuve from the Overlay
just to have a Buff/Debuff Timer is immense helpful as overlay, which tell you how long
your buffs last and now people will tell me that stopwatches are cheating
Also anyone caring about their DPS over random players aren't accounting for several factors; it's just a way to make themselves feel better somehow, probably due to having nothing else to be proud of.
A DPS meter is for self improvement or team improvement, not your epeen.
