Fighting Kirin (answered)
does it make sense to have Thunder Res III and Thunder Mantle together?

Paralysis res, stun res, fire weapon, need I more?

you need none of the skills, when you are used to the moveset or simply use a range weapon

thanks, but this doesnt really answer my question, does it?

Thunder mantle can save you. Thunder res is okay if you can fit it in but otherwise Kirin is a eye exam. Just have to keep an eye out for the blue flashes on the ground.

Thunderproof Mantle ain't last entire fight, even with Tool Maint 3 on. Have at 20 Thunder Resistance so you're immune to Thunderblight.

Overkill Kirin is one of the easiest elder dragons

Fire weapon - Depends on what weapon your using

Para Res - I don't recomend you'll learn to avoid the para attacks

Stun res - Some people swear by this skill but personally stuns tell me im being sloppy

Thunder res - Good for learning kirin soften the hits having 20 resist will remove thunderblight

Mantle - I never really use it but as long as your willing to sacrifice another mantle slot I don't see why not

1. Halberion CB
2. What mantle do you recommend? (i dont have all, like apo, temp or rock).

yes they both stack. equip them if you have difficulty or dying constantly against Kirin. don't listen to the usual git gud people here. play the way you find most comfortable.

Fire Bows can melt him pretty quickly or a Sticky LBG is also good against Kirin

Thundermantle is also a good choice there in case you cant dodge his lighting fast enough or to deny thunderblight/paralayze for its duration

If your lacking in some of the better mantles i say go and use thunderproof i normally use rocksteady just to to force flinch shots and whatever else i use normally evasion/temporal

as for the weapon I never really dabbled in elemental phial charge blades but i think as long as you dont spam SAED you should be fine to use it being you'll likely miss most of the phials due to kirins smaller size

Thunderproof mantle is enough. It lasts for awhile, recharges quickly, and can save you from being OHKO. Definitely worth it.
Warkrunner Apr 17, 2020 @ 2:53am
I always use Thunderproof and Temporal mantles for Kirin.
Rocksteady can be a death sentence on certain hits.

Thunder resist is a bit overkill, and para or stun resist is not necessary.
I'd only use thunder resist decos if I don't build armor with inherent thunder resist on it for the job.

I haven't fought one in awhile but I believe Guard UP can block his sideways lightning attacks?

Can someone verify?

If you feel like you are getting hit by to many thunders, getting paralysed a good amount of times which causes you to cart, then by all means, use ThunderRes, ParaRes and whatnot. If you feel more comfortable with his moveset, swap the defensive skills with Crit-Stuff or Attack/Agitator, whatever is avaiable for you.

ThunderRes + Mantle reduces thunder damage by a good chunk, so if you don't have better mantles atm, then use it. The mantle also prevents paralysis.

You might also want to look into Health Boost III. It stacks with the +50 health from your food buff. It's the single best defensive skill imo.
Do you have Iceborne? If not, you should consider Mind's Eye. Can be quite annoying to bounce off its body when charged.

With a big shield and Guard Up you can block literally everything Kirin can throw at you.
The higher your Guard and Thunder Resist, the less chip the lightning does through your guard.

Nothing wrong with bringing a thunder mantle.
Eat for elemental resistance L before the hunt. If you die from 1 lightning hit without a mantle, add thunder resistance III.
You do not need paralysis or stun resistance.
