Stamina thief
Hey guys,

I'm trying to make some fun builds that are support-oriented. I'm pretty interested in stamina thief skill but i wonder if it just works with certain types of weapons or attacks since i've never seen anyone using it. I'm currently using a switch axe, and i guess i will make a safi SA with exhaust phials. Does stamina thief stacks with exhaust phials ? especially when you do zero sum discharge ? Could be really interesting if it does.

Stamina Thief does stack, but words of warning with Exhaust SA. In MP, exhaust scales, so you will be less and less effective with each exhaust. With that, KOs from Exhaust Phials are significantly harder to pull off. Exhaust does NOT effect enraged monsters. Exhaust does NOT effect elders.

Interesting point, so that means exhaust is just only good for solo ?
I can understand that exhaust doesn't work on enraged monsters, didn't know it doesn't for elders, that doesn't even make sense xd.
Too much circumstances for exhaust to shine in MP when other weapons can do pretty much better in terms of KOs. I guess, not worth.

The biggest reason stamina thief is bad in this game is because once a monster gets exhausted, people just wall bang it and send it back into rage mode. Also many players want the monster to be raging at all times because it triggers their Agitator 7 which is just an insane skill.

Agitator 7 meta builds haha
I don't really think it's bad to wallbang after you exhaust. i'm used to it because i sometimes use sleep SA to wallbang the monster when he's sleeping or is about to (when you play with people using sticky bowguns or suicidal teammates spamming their attacks, pretty sure they're gonna ruin the sleep xd)

Not an answer to any of your questions but I suggest whatever you're planning with stamina thief. Use it for Guiding lands. More wall bangs. More materials. :winter2019happydog:

If you're interested in a support built that can put out decent enough DPS to hold its own while still looking flashy you could make a Kinsect Only IG with Wide Range, Speed Eating and either Part Breaker (Sever Kinsect) or KO (Blunt Kinsect). Sever or Blunt are both incredibly reliable at pulling off what they need to do and the weapon doesn't matter so long as it has Element Boost as a Kinsect ability. For something like Safi'Jiva, where red ammo may have a delayed drop, the Spirit/Power ability is a good substitute.

After some playing around you might find your spatial awareness allows you to take advantage of wall slams and spot heals rather quickly and the speed you can sheath the IG to heal someone is fast enough that you'll question why people even use the SnS anymore. To top it off, even if you DO get hit you'll be one of the tankiest ranged classes short of an HBG with a shield. Divine Blessing really shines as you'll be hit quite rarely. You're also still a "melee" in terms of defense and you're Kinsect buffs boost your defense an additional 10%.

This is a build I like to use for multiplayer. Really reliable when it comes to cutting the tail or breaking specific parts. When helping someone level I target every breakable part to increase the overall rewards so they can potentially make better equipment.

Can anyone else confirm this? I'd been using three pieces of the Esurient armor ( https://monsterhunterworld.wiki.fextralife.com/Stamina+Thief+Secret - and usually with the head+chest of Tigrex's armor for earplugs) in a lot of my builds, with the hunting horn - but if what JPM is saying is correct, this means I have three pieces of armour that aren't doing much of anything at all...

I'm too lazy to find the exact time in the video that relates to this (exhaust), but you'll find your answers in this youtube video by the math guys.

Looks interesting, i might take a closer look when i will be motivated to play IG. I've never played IG, and i'm not motivated yet to try :(

The video posted kinda highlights the issues with exhaust. Enraged creatures flat out ignore it, and elder dragons can't be exhausted by player. Its not really worth building around at all because of both of those things.

Exhaust phials are just bad.

If you want a support build, play sticky LBG/HBG. Exhaust ammo is maybe ok (I haven't tried it but it has much higher exhaust values than exhaust phials do), plus you get KOs, sleeps, and paralyzes.

Neither was I once upon a time, but the weapon was so easy to obtain I had to try it out. I'd mained Gunlance and Rajang had been giving me problems. I managed to beat it, but not without difficulty. When I tried out the above weapon it took some getting used to. Unlike normal IG you're not physically attacking the target and can keep your distance with a longer reliable range than any ranged weapon with no degradation of DPS due to distance. Knocked more than a few fliers from max height from the sky to testify to this.

I've made a few different takes on this build, one which substitutes max Defense other than Wide Range/Speed Eating for solo play, one to farm Raging Brachi and one to take down Safi'Jiva. The SJ does mix a few areal attacks in with a Safi sleep glaive, but that's mostly for mounts when focusing on someone and the offchance of putting it to sleep. The bug is still the main source of damage and it's reliable for breaking the back and aiding in breaking the wings before focusing the head for KOs. The build drops the Silver Rath set for Tigrex and its Free Meal Expert to spam heals when someone takes a big hit. I chose Blunt over Sever because that tail seems impossible to cut without a Greatsword.
