You can meld shield jewel along with the other super rare jewels right after beating the final boss of iceborne story. Beats farming the name's lavasioth over and over again any day.

Wait. I can meld higher lvl as lvl 1 jewels? Because I only can meld lvl1 jewels I assume.

But only after iceborne final boss? Fatalis?

I think it's after Iceborne final boss. Not fully sure.

But yeah, I didn't get one even after 700 hours of play, so it's best to just meld it there.

From the Title 5 patch notes that introduced Fatalis

The following decorations can now be melded at the Elder Melder: Elementless Jewel 2, Shield Jewel 2, Sharp Jewel 2, Dragonseal Jewel 3, Mighty Bow Jewel 2, and Mind's Eye Jewel 2.

These become meldable at some point after shara, but I could be wrong.

You are correct. It's after that boss, and NOT Fatalis. That would be cruel :P
