It can be fun to stick around the base game and see how you fair, but do know that your HR gear will be replaced with MR gear very quickly.

Try to finish all of HR event quest if you can, including AT elders. When you feel stuck or enemy too strong, it's time to go to iceborne.

Well most people will be further up the ranks and you can keep playing and go back to these quests but if you want to prolong the game even more then do everything then move up.

ATs in the base game are supposed to be fought using base game gear. Their gears are top tier of the base game, but only if you plan to linger in base game. That's the last challenge you can try out before you get Iceborne. If you plan to get Iceborne, you can fight them for challenge but their gears are going to be outclassed by the lowest tier of Iceborne armor/wpn.

Personally I just started Iceborne, you will have enough content in it, but if you are a completionist listen to the other guys.

Honestly, get started with Icebrone asap. Just remember to get the mantles from the base game though.

I'd say you should at least aim to do all sidequest in base game first, so you can get all the mantles and other such bonuses. They will be very useful in Iceborne and some of those are prerequisites for important sidequest in there.

Other than that it's only the question whether you want to challenge yourself with hardest base-game fights. They become pointless once you start Iceborne.

I'd start on Iceborne asap. But if you want to play it a bit safer, you can unlock temporal mantle first before heading into Iceborne.

Depends on what you want
If you just want to be finished with the game start iceborne, if you wanna get the most playtime out of the game I'd recommend doing endgame stuff first

It is highly recommend that before you head to Iceborne, you finish your ground work first. Get all capes, farm upgrades, befriend all cat tribes, unlock all camps, find all food ingredients, do all optionals with (...) symbol in front of their names, deliver all stuff required.

get to iceborn and get your stuff there, then grind out base game collection.

WTF why? Go iceborne, it's okay.

Because literally all of those things are still useful in Iceborne. Too many times I've met people asking "What can make the water dragon easier?", to which many suggest bringing a waterproof mantle, to which they reply "When do I get that?". Oh, y'know, about 100 hours ago, hidden away in those "useless" optionals they refused to do.

Same thing when people complain that they have to farm crafting materials because they never upgraded the garden, or it's a pain to keep fertilizers up because they never unlocked soft soil, or their canteen rarely gives them the full 50 extra hp because they have no fresh ingredients, or the only help their cat brings is the vigorwasp because it has no other tools, or they can't use raider rides because they never befriended the grimalkyn in each locale.

And good lord, people, unlock your camps! The only thing that sucks more than helping someone fight Nergi and they've unlocked neither of the other camps in the locale, is watching that same pitiful soul die 3 seconds before the end of the hunt, and not make it back in time to carve because they never unlocked them.

Or just to get the most bang for the buck
Why buy a game if you don't intend to play it all, I mean sure you can go back and do Basegame stuff with mr equipment, but at that point you could just cheat it in

I'm in a similar position. I've completed all the base game assigned quests (+Temp Bazels and Temp Kirin), all the optionals and I'm currently farming some decos, but some of the builds I've been looking at have AT Nerg or other AT equipment.

I have full Rarity 8 armor (which I assume is basegame max?) and Rarity 7/8 weapons (depends on which one I play), and I'm HR 53. I have Vigorwasp and Flashbugs maxed out, currently leveling horn too.

I play 90% CB, sometimes Hammer and occasionally SnS. I like the idea of a raw damage builds, is worth getting Nerg Gamma armor and THEN move to Iceborne etc. or should I just go into Iceborne with what I have now? I have to admit I'm enjoying the base game still so I'm not feeling the need to start Iceborne (the thought actually seems kinda daunting since people say it's at least as long as the base game).
