Monster Hunter: World

Monster Hunter: World

Kushala Daora
Just died to the Kushala Daora after 40 minutes of pummeling it, bringing it down to it's last leg and effectively giving it stage 4 cancer because even when it's healt bar was, if even, millimeters in length, I kept on hitting it but to no avail. Mere 3 seconds after the "10 minutes remaining" pop-up appeared I died to it's wind cyclone thing. Battling the Kushala Daora was a fight meant for the history books, it was a fight concisting of hardship, bravery and most of all unbalanced bullshittery. After running after it every time it decided it had enough of our fighting area and yearned for another, I came to the first fainting which was brought upon by, most probably, a creative director having found a western game mechanic called "stun-lock" and decided that Monster Hunter: World was a game which needed to give it's players (or perhaps only myself) a true glimpse into what a true stun-lock looks like via making me a sufferer of the stun-lock after every minor inconvenience (that ofcourse includes every attack that any and every monster, big or small, throws at me).

The second fainting does not have differ from the first by any means. A second glimpse into what a game brimming with stun-locks looks like. After having accidentally stepped into it's cyclone I found my character kneeling down on the ground and refusing to get up no matter how many times I button mashed or yelled at her, after which Kushala Daora decided it was time to give me a good serving of his juicy wind powers and blew his... gust of wind at me and thus bringing me to my second faint.

So where does this paragraph bring us? To a question.

What the ♥♥♥♥?

Any and all feedbag will (probably) be appreciated.

Bring flashpods and extra flashbugs to make more during the fight. Every time Kushala takes to the skies, blind him out of it. Easy fight.
Kush sucks after all the flash pod nerfs. Only fight it when you have to.

The best ways to fight it are:

A.) Fight it with its own armor so it can't push you around with its wind.

B.) Fight head-lock it, as in do a bunch of damage to its head to knock it down. Count your damage to its head while it is down and stop one hit away from a re-topple. Hit it in the head again to knock it down again. Then just repeat this process so it never gets a chance to move again.
HR Kushala, bring flash pods and flash bugs to craft more flash pods.
MR Kushala, bring Spread 3 HBG and give Kushala brain surgery
Give your cat trapper gadgets and level it up. Also you don't have to fight and beat everything alone, the moment you access iceborne content and mine a few ores you can start crafting decent defensive stat gear right off the bat, that is 50% better than your defenders or HR gear.
monster hunter is all about overcoming adversity.

why not team up with an experienced hunter and get some ideas from them on what you can do differently in your next hunt?

will save you from a 1500+ word essay reading lol
Also I don't get people wanting to play a game solo and taking the brunt of the difficulty like a souls-game. If it's easier with multiple people then it makes sense for it to be the main focus.
Use a Hunting Horn with All Wind Pressure Negate. Spam that one single song like your life depend on it while hitting the steel dragon.
As melee for HR version, I geared for Earplugs 5/Windproof 3, then just spammed clutch claw whenever it was safe to as it flew around, which eventually gets it to the ground tenderized and ready for the real damage. Flash pods to keep it grounded or ground it after tenderizing enough.

Or could try using a Bow or something.

Kushala's wind aura is very difficult for short range. It knocks around anyone who gets too close, but doesn't have much reach beyond that. Lance has a good advantage because it can block the wind attacks and poke into the wind aura from out of range.

Sounds like you bruteforce the game with defender gear and don't learn how game mechanics works and looks like.

Game has multiple way to interrupt your actions, but also provide multiple ways to overcome them. For example, monster roars can be dodged or blocked. You can use specific skills to ignore effects. You can stay laying on the ground after being hit for longer instead of get up immediately - this helps to not get hitted by consecutive attacks. You can use panic dive (superman dive) to completely ignore most dangerous monster moves - this dive has insane amount of i-frames. But most impactful 'skill' in all fights is position yourself right.

Oh, and actual stun effect is punish for being hit too frequent.
To answer in a strategic manner: you would be best to have some Windproof and some Earplugs to deal with most of the "locking" Kushala Daora can put you in (roars, some wind pressure). Though, you won't be able to negate all wind pressure without the Kushala Daora armour, so the Windproof's effect is only really for some attacks and the tornadoes. I run an evasion set, so sometimes I can get away from the roars just with an evade, but Windproof helps prevent some of the knock back and is recommended at minimum.

When on the ground, I like to stay to the sides of the head where I can rush in quickly to get some hits on the head when it shoots a wind blast. In the air, unless you have a ranged weapon or Insect Glaive (tbh, just hit it with the Kinsect), your best bet is to flash it out of the air, or just cope and wait. Also, I don't know what the meta is for this, but I usually try to bring a weapon with Elderseal on it as getting in enough hits can weaken that wind aura it has.

That being said, to answer in a more general manner: Kushala Daora in this game is just awful. It's not the attacks, it's all the stalling it does in the air, in the tornadoes, the random dragon wind pressure. It doesn't even deal any elemental blights.
Also this wouldn't be so bad if your palico wasn't so useless in this game. Oh the hunter is stuck? I think I should stand next to them so the next attack hits the both of us.
Almost worthy of an award. Not quite there but keep trying, you have real potential.
One of the few monsters that has one simple solution: Sticky spam.

If you're hitting that 40 minute mark, maybe consider re-gearing. Take advantage of Kushala's elemental weakness, or maybe use a different weapon that gives you more of an advantage over Kushala's strengths. You should probably switch your armor to a set with windproof, as that will almost trivialize the fight. At HR, you can utilize decos as well, so don't forget about those. It definitely sounds like you should get some Stun Resist decos. Lastly, I hope you aren't relying on the defender set. If you have been, then that crutch may explain your long hunt times and frequent fainting, as you aren't learning when best to attack or when to dodge.
