Good on you!
If only more people in Monster Hunter World felt that way.
So true, if i had to count how many full fatalis armor pepega i played with, dying in phase 1, doing 5k damage, i mean yeah, better craft the full armor with a cheat before trying to actually kill it
I've witnessed an instant kill against Xeno'Jiiva once. Poor thing was glitched out hardcore, some guy joined my friend + me's session to kill Xeno'Jiiva and just one shot the thing in the first area, he didn't fly away, didn't do a death animation, just froze in place while still looking at you (like a disconnect) but the 60 second quest timer began along with the usual fanfare. Couldn't even carve, lol.
Shame you can't abandon a quest from the victory screen, although from experience crashing after quests (
If you swing that way, anyway.
Those oneshots tend to cause issues in the game as the game was never meant to process such an event. I had a similar situation where me and a friend of mine were hosting SOS sessions for Behemoth. A random player joined who didn't have any armor equipped and he only had a HBG. He runs up to Behemoth and Behemoth just instantly dies in a single shot, which caused him to freeze in place. We couldn't carve him, but the countdown did start and the game assumed that the quest had been completed.
We forcefully closed the game and the attempt, thankfully did not count. We beat him normally a few attempts later.
I truly wish that Capcom did a bit more to seperate these players from the regular ones. Maybe force them to play strictly offline somehow?
It's really rare, but it completely ruins the hunt when it occurs.
I guess they bypassed that anti-cheat pretty quick though. Doesn't help that it may or may not have tanked performance on lower end machines and also false flagged non cheaty mod users as cheaters, which gave people all the excuses and justification they needed to download it, which I guess raised the awareness to it.
Dark Souls has a soft-ban feature, I wish Capcom would take note from it - although I'm currently softbanned in Dark Souls III for some reason (recently started playing it again and was apparently softbanned, even though I last played it like two years ago lol, don't know why) so I guess the system isn't entirely foolproof in that regard, but it'd be a step in the right direction.
Let cheaters get put into a pool of cheater only sessions or something, I dunno. Make it temporary "just in case" so anyone false flagged will eventually be unflagged, and also allow softbanned players to join password protected or private sessions but stop them from ever playing in the public matchpool or something, for reduced annoyance if falsely flagged.
This timeout system was a step in the right direction for people modding in content that isn't released fully yet, but it would have also been good to mark them too for a "gentle" softbanning on top, lol.
Also, having a modded .exe people can play on and an unmodded .exe like some other games do would be nice as well. I'm sure they could do it if they tried hard enough, then some of the cooler stuff like custom monsters people have been making might be worth using and having fun with.
Cheaters tend to be more subtle like this I think. Just giving themselves access to every single material via a vendor, or unlocking just one or two extra full skills. They're harder to find but it really sucks. Completely demeans the spirit of the game, the actual reason to play.
Apparently killing monsters as fast as possible is all that matters. I blame the slew of hyper competitive games influencing players to be absolute winners.
Those are all great suggestions altough I disagree about the softbanning system used by the Souls series. That system caused innoncent players to be banned as well if a cheater dropped items on the ground. It wasn't a foolproof system unfortunately and cheaters could still get around it.
I wasn't aware that they had recently stepped up their anti-cheat detection and that's definetly a step in the right direction in spite of the fact that it's implementation caused issues for users on outdated systems. Does the system make the distinction that Capcom mentioned that a mod is classified as an external download that does not affect gameplay? There are probably ways around this system already as I still encounter DPS overlay cheaters from time to time.
Cheaters who have actually modified their stats or who use oneshot cheats are a lot rarer thankfully so maybe the system does work to some extent.
I definetly think that seperating modded games from unmodded is a good idea. That way the player can choose whether they want to play with others who share their sentiments. I think that would be a great boon to Monster Hunter World. Most people tend to play the game strictly vanilla so the playerbase wouldn't be too fractured and it does protect regular players from cheaters. A lot of games use a system like this and I think that it would be an effective tool for Monster Hunter World as well.
Those are definetly great suggestions!
Right now we have to report and block cheaters through Steam, which isn't the best way of handling this issue.
now if you said they broke the head in the first minute, then broke it again shortly after they got back up, i'd be more inclined to believe they were cheating.
when kulve taroth dropped i thought i met a couple of cheaters, turned out rapid fire thunder shot was just THAT good against kulve in pursuit 1 back before IB.
Oh yeah, next time post proof. (sarcastic-passive-aggressive-smiley-face)
Even if they were cheating, why would you care about an 8 minute timer on your record?
Just how often will you look at your record?
Mods:
- Graphical changes only you can see. (Health bar overlays and such do not count. Those are cheats.)
- Audio effects.
- Custom monsters that offer no rewards other than the fun of fighting them.
- DPS overlay only because the game features this as an occasional display, but disable literally everything else that comes bundled with it or you're cheating.
- NPC placement in the Astera gathering hub.
Cheats:
- Literally everything else that doesn't fall under the above categories.
There is no arguing this list. Whatever you think "might" contradict it is wrong. It's a cheat, plain and simple. There are no "lesser cheats", a cheat is a cheat and if you use anything not listed above as a "mod" you are a cheater. Capiche?
because if your doing a story speed run or a 100% completion speed run, moving NPC's to improper locations because that location has a much lower load time, impacting your overall run time, you are subverting the natural order of the game in order to gain an edge on your runs time that is not provided by the game itself therby it is cheating!
HA!
