I really don't think there's a way to artificially move time forward, I think it's connected to the session you are currently in - I've seen similar gripes from people who tried using Cheat Engine to speed up the game time by a factor of 10, to try and move the day / night cycle along and all it does is speed up the clouds in the sky but not the time of day itself, which is apparently a really surreal experience lol, clouds moving at lightspeed but the sun remaining firmly in place.
I do notice the time of day seems to vary wildly when you hop between sessions though, for what it's worth. That might help you find a currently night time session quicker if you're not willing to wait half an hour or whatnot.
I've had experiences with friends where it has been dusk for them but night time for me, though. In particular when we were taking a screenshot together, they had a deep red and orange skyline because it was dusk, but on my end it was the middle of the night almost, dark and blue with a full moon looming overhead. So I dunno so much about the session-wide time cycle...it's just a guess.
For me though, I'd just go farm RP or coal in the Grinding Lands for half an hour or so until night time rolled around naturally. Doesn't take too long, although it's true when you're waiting for something specifically it feels like it takes forever lol.
