whites are SUPER BRIGHT omg
Playing in 4k with HDR. Everything looks nice crisp and colorful but the minute sunlight falls on something with light colors.. like white or tan, it glows with the intensity of 1000 suns. It completely NUKES all detail and glows like radioactive fallout. It is completely absurd. It literally hurts my eyes.

The ground in the forest area, the first area, glow extremely bright when the sun falls on them or if you're looking at it from a certain direction. Coral Highlands are unbearable. Any other color is completely fine. Night looks incredible.

What is the deal with this? Tried turning brightness all the way down, but that only helps a little, and reduces the quality of everything else.

Turning off HDR fixes the problem, but I would prefer HDR as the colors are much better except for whites.

Also I'm using reshade. I can tone down that brightness but again, at the cost of every other object looking bad and too dark.

It's only a problem in sunlight. Is it the bloom?

Is there an ini setting I can edit to reduce the white point or something for HDR? This is completely broken.

i havn't noticed this issue as much in the base game with the base game high res textures, im not using any reshade either. so maybe the problem lies in the reshade itself and how it does lighting?

no i got reshade to try to fix the problem. That's just how the game is by default, even with brightness turned all the way down. I have seen others have this problem too, and they mostly don't get help, just people saying they don't have that problem which doesn't help any of us lol

The problem goes away when I disable HDR but I really don't want to as it benefits literally every other aspect of the appearance

you got volumetric rendering on or off?
Tethius Oct 17, 2020 @ 5:34pm
It's off. Game looks much better without it

huh i have it on and dont notice this problem so maybe the volumetric fog diffuses the light more properly?

I already went through and toggled every option off while looking at the glowing ground. No change regardless. It only happens when direct sunlight falls on it. Any part of any map that has white sunlight is super blown out, but nothing else is affected. It is extremely annoying.

The 2nd hub of the base game has little spots of sunlight shining on the ground, and they glow blindingly while everything else is completely fine.

I had this issue without HDR and properly calibrating my monitor contrast fixed it. Not super helpful but its worth a shot.

hmm. post a screen cap, preferrably of a spot that'll be easy to recreate. i'll see what mine looks like and post a snap as well.

https://steamcommunity.com/profiles/76561198200124798/screenshots/ Look at the first 3 screenshots. The effect goes away when the camera is at certain angles.

Don't think it's my tv settings. It's only an issue with this game.
Xilo The Odd Oct 17, 2020 @ 6:39pm
well i can say for sure your gamma is suuuper low compared to mine. the images look very dim. i'll hop in game real quick and see if i can reproduce this to some degree with my settings. i havn't noticed this before but then again, my focus is typically on the monster not the environment xD

thats what i see, i have no gamma changed, didnt see an HDR lighting option in the game settings, so if thats apart of the reshade i'd turn it off. only thing that seems to be blown out is is the white flowers and anything else on the extreme end of saturation for its color.

i'd say if possible clear your shader cache and verify game files if you havn't already.

My screenshots are probably dim because this game wont engage HDR unless you first turn it on through windows, which dims all SDR content. When screenshots are taken, I don't believe it has the hdr applied so you see the dimmed version of the SDR version due to windows sdr dimming with hdr enabled.

Any other game automatically engages windows HDR settings on boot, but if you dont do it manually, this game will disable HDR options.

The option probably doesn't even appear if your not HDR capable.

Other people have an option for Nvidia Ray tracing but since my card lacks that feature, I do not have that option in my menus while others do. There is def. an HDR option in game.

oh k, yeah this is still an old G-sycn 2k display so that'd explain that.

yeah perhaps they just didnt optimize the textures for HDR like they should have, or maybe those rocks are just that reflective!

but if they were that reflective... those aptonoth should have severe burns.
