Am I ready to fight Fatalis? (Read to understand)
I am relatively new in MHW and I wanted to know when am I "ready" to actually fight Fatalis since there is a lot of idealism around this monster. In nearly 2 weeks I beated the default game and Iceborn, and I unlocked a couple days ago the Safi'Jiiva and Alatreon quests (didnt try any of them yet), and well, for what I know I only need to get Alatreon killed and then I can move on to Fatalis, but, am I "ready"?
Evidently, psychologicaly Im absolutly ready, but I dont know if my build is ok for it:
Lightbreak Blade, head, hands and coil Kaiser+ and chest and boots raging brachy+, summing 930 defense (have yet to upgrade boots completly), 20 fire resistance, and the following skills:
Critical eye 7, Part Breaker 3, Stun Resistance 3, Health Boost 3, Weakness Exploit 3, Blight Resistance 3, Blast Attack 2, Agitator 2, Free Meal, Wide Range 1, Divine Blessing, and then some trashy others

Thing is, I think its nearly the best build I can get, I could get more and better jewels by farming but I think its good enough like that. Now, when I think about my armor and weapon, I really dont know If i should be augmenting it all I can before trying to beat Fatalis, should I? Or is it way enough with what I already got?

Thanks for reading :)

You must fully augment your armour and health regen augment your weapon
930 defense isn't enough as well, you need more

Just go fight it and you'll see how hard it is

for your first bout, i recommend survival over damage first, which seems you did for the most part. running divine blessing secret can really mitigate some of his more powerful attacks, PB3 is good. you'll want to run heavy artillery and ghillie mantle though, wear the mantle as you fly in or even use it in the solo portion to get those cannons filled and lined up. he flinches from heavy artillery fire so i highly advise it. 6 cannon balls with heavy arty skill maxed and feyline bombardier is pretty easy to manage, thats 1 full cannon and a partial one for the first flinch. wail on the head as much as possible. the 20 fire res is a good call as being fire blighted will often kill you more than anything else and it'll feel silly when it does.

keep in mind, even in top end sets, being two shot is common. being one shot will probably happen your first couple of times from some of his attacks with a really long tell.

930 defense is plenty, 1000 would be better but diminishing returns on damage mitigation and what not. i've gone at him with 1100 defense and still get two shot by him. its a fight of practice practice practice.

is better you try it out first, and get used from all his move, then you should figure out which is the best gear to defeat it.
If you feel like it just try it. You'll see after that whether you still feel ready for it. And if you feel overwhelmed (as it is a really hard fight) you can back to it later after doing all the other stuff the game has and coming back later with augments and stuff.

oh if your using any kind of weapon with a shield, guard 5 + guard up. its a HUGE help for a good chunk of his attacks.

guard 5 isnt needed. the knockback is the same with guard 3 and 5. only stamina loss is bigger. chip dmg taken remains the same aswell. guard 5 isnt worth it on fatty.

as for the tc :

1000 defense is good. but the rest looks fine to me. you gotta learn to avoid his moves anyway. as you cannot tank em. if his ai wants you dead. itll make you dead anyway. rng at its finest.

yeah thats why i prefer just goin guard 5, results in more max might uptime in your follow up if your using it. otherwise gives you a nice buffer for HIS followup.

and yeah barring RNG you can't tank his stuff forever even with blocking, but with divine prot 5, you stand a reasonable chance of trying to if needed. i had to block 3 of his flame spreads in a row one hunt. which was great because my allies got a lot of face time, but i was damn near dead as i got unlucky on my divine prot procs. he was gonna follow up with fireballs and i noped out of the arena.

When you are blocking everything he throws at you taking huge chip damage and on low health (especially when he triple fire balls you twice in a row) and your team just keep attacking him.
"No, your not going to throw a dust of life?" So you try to pack your ♥♥♥♥ up to heal to then get blasted.

i've done exactly this and lived. so i dunno what your blocking with but i block with CB and survive most everything just fine. the chip damage is almost nil with most of his attacks and divine prot 5 procing every other attack.

and as i said, if it gets hairy, thats what farcasters are for. the chip damage i get from most attacks is maybe 5 damage at the most. his 1 shot attacks that are still blockable signifigantly more but if you know what your sorta doin you almost never have to deal with these attacks till about 20% HP.

ah yes, blocking may not be the best thing for you then. might still run guard up for emergencies but otherwise evade 5 and evade distance 3 is always nice to have. before i went back to guard i was having fun with evade CB, but then i learned that blocking with shield weapons blocks his big cone attack behind the person just like the pillars, so i went guard not just for me but for the guys behind me.

db5 is indeed great for him however it wont help the tc as its difficult to run db5 WITHOUT the actual fatty armor at hand with good decos at first.

i never used MM againist fatty so cannot comment on that argument myself. guess fair point ?
but dmg taken wise guard 5 doesnt help you at all on him. the firecone is blockable just fine either way. the blue flame cone is another story if he manages to use it on you before headbreak. that cone WILL end you unless rng db 5 saves your ass. no matter what guard level you run.

Gold Rathian Chest and Waist. Gets you the secret and the all the skill points, even has good natural fire resistance and slots.

It's quite simple though. Gold Rath chest & waist piece gives full DB & some fire resist to boot. Perfect for taking on Fatty assuming u atleast reach MR70.
