You have to make sure your weapon reaches the monster and a funny number will appear.
And ignore Cannons , roaming balista and the dragonator , they can only deal like 30k DMG WHO needs that?

This is what I used to farm Fatalis until I had the stuff to acquire his gear. Keep in mind this is the final post-game boss along with Arch-Tempered Velkhana so it's been made with fully augmented and levelled up gear in mind, anything less isn't going to cut it unless you're extremely skilled. I highly recommend learning switchaxe(It's not too complicated of a weapon, I just picked it up myself) because it serves very well against this boss. Slash the tail in sword mode, when its amped wound the head, wear temporal/rocksteady mantle and latch onto its face, using the discharge constantly(Hits should be regenerated well due to recovery up + augment). Slinger burst it whenever you can. The goal is to focus on head damage, leave the forelegs alone - you're only slashing the tail to charge your weapon.
Also the weapon has an affinity and health augment. You can use the safi poison, paralysis, or dragon axe as a substitute but you want those abilities and augments.
Could you list your build so that we can take a look at it?
I've beaten him in about 20 minutes with the hammer so I know that it is possible.
I'd be happy to give you one of the most efficient builds for Fatalis if you want. It's an SA build, but that build absolutely demolishes him. It's one of the strongest builds against Fatalis.
I could also take a look at the hammer build that I used if you want.
There are a few skills that are mandatory on any build ; Healthboost 3, partbreaker 3, fire resistance 3 and the skill that buffs the damage done by siege weapons. Divine blessing is incredibly useful as well.
Make sure that your gear is fully augmented and that youre using health augments on your weapon as those really increase your survivability.
His difficulty is fine as he's meant to be extremely difficult. He's the ultimate endgame challenge.
Keep in mind that this is not a fight that you'll complete in a couple of tries. It took me about 30 tries to defeat him for the first time.
Next, let say you only had 20 minute to deal that much damage, you need to deal 2989 damage per minute. Let's divide it even more, and you need to deal 499 damage every 10 seconds. Now that looks more manageable!
Now, figure out how much your weapon can put out damage, and if you can hit that 499 damage per 10 second, it's a matter of time before you kill him!
Lastly, learn his move. Watch Youtuber run. When is best to attack/evade to fully maxyour damage.
He likes to waste your time by flying.
Don't let him.
Use smoke bombs and it will deaggro him and he will come down.
Also, it works just as well with the Roaming Ballista.
Throw a smoke bomb or 2 at the Roaming Ballista and once he is deaggroed, he will just stand there looking for you. That's when you can fire the Roaming Ballista at his head or chest without him moving much.
He really will just stand there and take the shots. A little broken but I guess we can use every trick in the book. I never tried it with one other though. Usually the smoke runs out about 3/4 of the mag so I always wondered if someone were to throw another smoke bomb around 1/4 or 1/2 the mag while I am shooting his head/chest, whether he will really just take the whole clip without doing anything which is kinda funny.
Don't need to rush it too. In fact, tenderise his head before you do it.
Make sure that he is not in an attack. The smoke bomb seems to work before the next attack. I usually just let my cat aggro him a bit so his attention is not on me and then I'll toss the smoke bombs.
This means you don't need Ghillie mantle or the one-shot binders as part of your Roaming Ballista routine at all. So, you save the Far Caster trip and you get 2 more chances to whack his head with your weapon moves instead of just to pin him in place for the Roaming Ballista or to bring him to the ground.
