Question regarding the Naaga Matraca (Great Girros Hammer)
So i've recently started up Iceborne and upgraded my Great Girros hammer to its master rank version, the Naaga Matraca. And I noticed the blades on the end of the hammer. Does this mean that this thing can do severing damage? sorry if it's a stupid question but I think it would make sense for a bladed hammer to also be able to do severing damage. I looked it up and found nothing so that's why i'm asking here.

No. Damage type is completely dependent on weapon class. There are also club type Sword and Shield which still do cut damage.

Unfortunately, no. Hammers will always do Blunt damage, but hey! You have an excuse to sharpen it now.

Alright, thanks for the help. Though like I said I think it would be cool for certain weapons in a weapon catagory to do different non elemental damage types other than the ranged weapons. Though I guess that would be a little OP.
While it wouldn't be very amazing for current blunt weapons to deal cut damage, the opposite might indeed be a bit too much. Of course they could just give them very small stun value and/or balance it by having the blunt type weapons be generally weaker. It'd be a lot of work to give so many moves stun values too, especially in a balanced way.

Edit: Sticky shots already show what happens when you don't properly balance the stun value. I feel like this is the reason they made Fatalis immune to stun too. It seems to indicate that they do realize how much they ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up those shots.

Yeah I fell for this back in the day with the Vaal Hazak Hammer when I was new to the game lol, I put in like a days effort (because I sucked back then) killing Vaal Hazaks to make his Hammer because it looked like an axe, and thus I assumed would be able to sever...but nope.

Hammers will always be blunt damage - the day they make a Hammer that can sever tails is the day I never use anything else again, ever.

There's a bunch of other Hammers that look like they should be able to sever, the base model with the triple blades is one of them yeah, but there's also some like the Guild Palace Hammer which looks like a halberd tip, and stuff like that.

Visual only, I'm afraid!
