Broken hitboxes
Anybody notice that hitboxes are kinda broken in the air? Things like furious Rajangs attacks visually only being on the ground but still hitting in the air or vaulting over beam attacks being inconsistent. I mean, its fine in World since you're hardly in the air and if you are you can learn the invisible hitboxes, but they better make things more consistent in Rise or people not used to fighting in the air are going to have a bad time

well part of it is fighting on uneven terrain. the other factor with beasts like rajang, he slams his beam down, so simply vaulting up to dodge is not viable as he is bringing the beam down on your head.
hitboxes are genrally meh at best, but aerial hitboxes make even plesioth jealous.

As for beams I'm thinking more how 99% of the time you can vault over Valk Safi, ecet but 1% of the time the hit you for seemingly no reason. With Rajang its more of why does a ground slam stagger me if I'm above it and not visually hit. All little things that once you learn you can easily avoid, but if someone has used greatsword and never used the glider mantle (and also never played older monster hunter with its broken hitboxes) they will be in for a bad time the first few hunts of rise (assuming the hiboxes are the same as world)
Maybe it's their way of balancing IG vault. Or maybe the just got lazy and didn't care to think about the hit boxes above the monsters that much.

They likely got lazy with the hurtboxes such as Tigrex being very notorious for ♥♥♥♥ hurtboxes.

Even fatalis's charge, even though annoying, lets you slide under the arms.

The hitboxes are never precise... they had to make them slightly bigger rather than pertaining to the actual model of the monster. It's been like this since I remember in MH.

In previous titles you could fight a monster with a huge tail and even if you crouched or used a lay down emote you will still get hit even if the tail was 1 m above you lol. It might be the player hitbox or the monster i dunno

The hitboxes are never precise... they had to make them slightly bigger rather than pertaining to the actual model of the monster. It's been like this since I remember in MH.

I don't know how much you've played this game but in general the hit boxes are pretty good here.
I remember I did an helm breaker vs fatalis once. He charged on 4 legs away from me
Got hit while at maximum height :/
the amount of times i was flying far above safi's wings only to get hit when he did something stupid like slap the ground... man lmao
i remember shara was annoying too, his wings during the ground claw thing would still hit you even if you're nowhere near them. i never really spammed aerial with IG on other monsters tho so idk exactly how bad they are, but, I can confirm they are pretty damn wonky on those larger guys lol

You can see he still got a dmg tick at the end.

Also OP, it is what it is. Personally didnt notice it that much in base game, but in Iceborne, alot of explosions or breath attacks that shouldnt really hit you, still do sometimes. AT velk is a good example of this with the floor spike icicles that most of the time you can fly over and just hit her some more. But, every now and then you get hit by it even if you are quite a height above it.

Also ♥♥♥♥ like wings having huge hitboxes while the monster is doing a charging attack or one of those "push you on your ass" attacks is annoying as all hell and makes me want to throw my PC out the window.

And this is honestly a good thing to do with IG in general, if you feel like you cant do a superman dive might aswell try leaping over it. You'll die anyway, but you'll die in style at least.
