I'm having some trouble with the insect glaive, my friend said that you can charge the kinsect by aiming and then pressing m1 and m2 simultaneously but I cannot do it even with ammo loaded in my slinger. Its frustrating since, even in the training room, I don't see any option to charge my kinsect. Anyone know about this or how to fix it?

you need iceborne, the dlc, buy it to get access to what you've wanted to do.

your friend should've probably asked you if you owned iceborne

Yeah that requires Iceborne. Feeding your kinsect 1 ammo allows it to hold 2 extracts at a time. On top of that you get a different buff for your kinsect depending on the type of slinger ammo you use.

If you use ammo you find around the map (stones, redpits, ect.) you double your kinsect's stamina allowing it to attack the a monster longer. I also believe it makes the extracts last longer. If you use ammo dropped by a monster your kinsect will attack more frequently and leave more dust clouds and makes extracts more effecting.

Also in Master Rank you can get Glaives with the Strength and Spirit bonus which gives your kinsect the benefits of both buffs regardless of the type of ammo used.

To further elaborate: there were moves added to every weapon, specific to the Iceborne expansion, along with the Clutch Claw gadget and some moves related to its use.

You can't perform these (such as what you've mentioned) without having purchased it.
