Not my favorite weapon, but objectively the best one.
There is literally no other answer.
"Objectively" Based on what exactly? DPS? In that case how is that objective? Best weapon "objectively" would be the horn as it can stun the monsters, cut tails and buff the whole group while doing decent dmg. You give everyone time to do dmg with proper stuns, you buff everyone with sick solos, and if you're bored you can poke a tail for slash dmg. No other weapon can do as much as a horn.
The elemental damage you can dish out is fantastic, demon mode dodge is quick, so if you have at least a couple of levels in evade window you can iframe most monster swipes. Part breaker is stupid good on dual blades because of their speed, You can get velkana armor pretty early on in iceborne so you can get critical element pretty quick too.
All you have to do is... Become absolutely addicted and unable to function physically, mentally, or emotionally without mega demon drug and Dash juice. Your mental fortitude will crumble with sheer agonizing terror at the thought of doing a hunt without at least 2-3 dash juices in your inventory because you didnt spend 5 hours farming kelbi horns.
Once you unlock guiding lands you will stare at your screen apathetically as you farm research points to meld stuff to get dash juice. You will spend hours hearing the gathering jingle and come to loathe it, as your body will eventually refuse to give the good brain juice for finding dragon treasures for that research point boost. It will feel like licking the walls of a dry well in the Sahara desert hoping to get just the tiny bit of moisture on your tongue to find any sort of relief from the agonizing pain of running laps in the same 3 zones for optimal gathering spots. No longer will you feel joy from this game, nothing but agonizing farming for small hits of dopamine when you do farm enough to go on a couple hunts, like an addict doing whatever it takes for that next hit.
For starting rookie weapons, long sword and dual blade has lots of success. Their play styles put players in strong aggressive positions and they have excellent recovery from mistakes. Greatsword is simple to pick up as it can beat the game using one attack. The lance is flat out undertuned so why pick it as a starting weapon, rookies want easy wins.
Bowguns have too many spreadsheets and too much inventory management for a rookie. The bow is high risk and takes a quite a bit of effort to pay off.
I've seen my share of rookie hammer players, and their life is pure hell. Something about the weapon just doesn't work out at the rookie level. It doesn't quite hit hard enough, isn't quite safe enough, and hunts consist of rookies orbiting around monsters waiting for an opening they can never find. It doesn't really take off until the hunter gets familiar with more advanced mechanics.
I see, i lost my time. Well played.
There is a reason why it is the most used weapon by a massive margin.
Outside of rise and first gen where it feels kinda weightless and weird to handle, greatsword is objectively the most satisfying weapon in this series. It just feels so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ good landing a charged hit and getting immediate visual feedback in the form of the monster reeling.
In terms of actual balance, with world specifically community consensus is divided between HBG and LS being best. HBG gets faster hunt times so I tend to say HBG is better almost objectively, at least for speed running.
the best weapon is the one you master to use. well if you gonna go for opinion of the whole community it will be just a pissing contest, some will troll, some will meme you wont get a straight answer from the community coz some will be butt hurt if there weapon of choice wont get selected as the BEST even its by vote they wont accept the conclusion. so just stick on what weapon you can master and that will be the BEST.
because the switch axe = 2 weapons, sword and axe... we all know that 2 is better than 1, it's basic math.... same goes for the gunlance since it's both a gun and a lance so 2... and the charge blade is equal to 3 weapons : sword, shield and an axe
It's possible to output insane DPS and utterly wreck some of the games most powerful monsters with the vast majority of weapons, even the most basic of them like Sword and Shield.
