Alatreon help
He's kicking my poor butt lol. I finally survived his 1-shot too but then still died somehow when it was over, and I had a good chunk of health lol. I didn't even see what happened x.x I might try a few more times later on my own, but ya. Any advice? It's my first time fighting him. I'm using GS, 600 ice dmg. I am doing my best to break his horns, and eating jerky to help with healing

Red health isn't health.

Don't know if it was. Like I said, looked like I made it, then not.

in every single case that I have seen someone say, "alatreon's tick killed me when I still had a ton of health/half a health bar/etc." it has always been red health, 100% of the time.

Red health is NOT health. Even if your health bar looks completely full, the exact second 100% of your remaining health turns red, you will cart.

Red health is NOT HEALTH. Red health is just, "Potentially regenable health." It works under the same rules as provisional damage in Capcom's fighting games:

I'm not saying it's health... Just looking for advice about the fight. :/ I only mentioned I had a good chunk left, cuz that's what it looked like at the moment. Idk if it was red or not. I'm not out here claiming red health is health.

I'm not saying it's health... Just looking for advice about the fight. :/
1.) Attack his front legs when he is in Fire form. Leave his horns alone for the most part. Doing enough ice damage will weaken his nova.

2.) When he goes into dragon mode, break one of his horns, and that will make him go back to fire mode instead of going into ice mode. That is the point of breaking the horn. Breaking the horn has no affect on his nova itself.

3.) When you see him start do his nova, plant a health booster tool, and get ready to pop max potions or astera jerky. If all your health turns red, you will instantly cart, so don't be greedy with the jerky or max potions.

4.) If you are still carting, make sure to bring a fortify gem in your set, and turn your palico into a medic.

Noted, thanks for the tips.

Elemental topples are a unique mechanic for the fight. With 0 topples the nuke will kill hunters nearly instantly. On the first topple they'll say "good work containing its power", all successful DPS checks will topple the same way. The nuke will still be lethal but it gives time to eat astera jerky, which instantly restores red health. Additional topples are possible before the nuke, and will make that one nuke weaker.

Alatreon resets after every nuke. If you break a horn it won't cross over to the other element type. Crossing over will mismatch your weapon and pretty much guarantee the next nuke is insta death.

So you must:
- score a topple to survive the current nuke
- Break a horn to be able to survive the next nuke
on every cycle. Alatreon has 2 horns, after that it's time to start eating carts.

Eat Jerky THEN mega potions. Bring basic survival skills in the first runs, like health boost. Ice GS should be good. Then you must learn more or less the attack patterns. Fire and thunder patterns on the floor can be easily i-framed at the last second. Fire, ice and thunder attacks can be long and give you free hits to the head. You can flich when he's in the air or against the rock pillars on the sides, so bring Rocksteady and save it for this moments. The real problem are the dragon attacks like the body slam and mini novas, since they can combo to dead and give you dragonblight, so learn especially to read those. Bring Nullberries or status cancelation, otherwise your element counts for nothing. Keep the head softened if you can. You can use Frostcraft or so to get some big draw attacks on those horns. During the nova you should use a max potion or health beacon. This fight is basically just a big damage check, you do enought dps or you cart.
