How to unlock layered weapons?

I've tried searching for an answer but everyone is saying something different. I'm just lost and confused and all I want is to change my weapon looks. I'm HR 84, MR 54. Iceborne finished, Rajang killed, Zinogre killed, Tundra unlocked - which is most of the things ppl say u need to unlock layered. What am I missing? What should I do?

Do you have tempered mats and spiritvein gems? Those are what you need to actually make layered weps, it might not show if you haven't unlocked the mats to do it yet.

Layered weapons are unlocked via master rank augmenting. You'll need to reach the guided lands and farm materials there. Then you can use the augment weapon interface to select a layered appearance.

Well, I guess I don't since the option doesnt show up. Any recommendations on how to get them?

Grind up forest level 4, tempred tobi spawns in level 4 forest and drops his tempered mats along with spiritveins. If it doesn't work then, well at least we know it's a different issue.

Oh, I should add that you can only apply layered appearances to MR weapons. HR weapons use the old augment interface which lacks the option. The MR weapons can take on low tier appearances, though.
