very hard learning curve
This game is very difficult to learn , item management is all over the place , capturing beasts is an absolute nightmare getting the tool bar ready for traps / tranq is a confusing mess with absolutely ♥♥♥♥ tutorials... beginning to really not enjoy it at all...

Loadouts to manage items much more easily. Ease of capturing comes with experience. Radial menu will clear up any confusion when looking for what you need.

Time spent preparing is many magnitudes less than time spent fumbling.

I've spent the last 2 1/2 hours trying to capture that fking bird on the optional side quest the thing dodges the trap runs off then ends up dying before i can even lay / craft another trap. i apparently can only hold 1 or 2

Not everybody start on the same page when reading a textbook. Even then not everyone read at the same speed. Go at your own pace. If you need more time take it. The game isn't going anywhere. If you want more practice, do it. It'll help in the long run. It's not like you only get one month to play the game then no one else will talk to you anymore because you didn't finish MHWorld in time. Even if it takes you five tries to kill Great Jagras. There's nothing wrong with that.

timing and learning creature habits is part of the game. if your trying to cap it pushes this a bit harder. you might drop a trap and it may decide at that moment instead of attacking you its gonna go to its nest and rest.

it happens. i've got over 4000 hours in the series as a whole doesnt matter which one we talkin this is just a fact of the universe.

To capture a monster, you must lower its health to ~20% or lower. At that point, most monsters will attempt to return to their nest to eat or sleep. That's when you can simply run up to them, use 2 tranq bombs, and place a trap under them while they aren't moving. Then they're captured!

You can only carry 1 shock trap and 1 pitfall trap at a time (and the quest-specific EZ shock trap from the item box), but you can also bring in 2 trap tools and materials to craft more traps mid-hunt if you fail to capture the monster.

You can only have 1 trap of each type active on the map at the same time. If the monster leaves the area where you placed a trap, you can walk up to it and disable it so you can place another later.

fighting isn't much of my problem as item & crafting is a very confusing mess especially when tied to capture quests . I'll craft the only trap available to me the lightning 1 , i can only hold 2 of then fumble through the quick slot i made to try an tranq the fker.
Kenpachi219 Jan 6, 2024 @ 4:19pm
Really.... the tutorial tells you to drop the trap first then use the tranq, but id end up doing that the beast would avoid it then limp back to base, funny how the game tells you the more difficult way of doing it if tranq then trap is easier.

I suggest you slow it down Kenpachi, take your time with the hunts, 15-20 minutes to successfully hunt down a monster is better than trying to do it in 5 and fail due to circumstances you have little control over.

You will get better with time, and you will understand both the crafting system, loadouts and item management with some practice.

so most capture quests give you a free EZ trap, and 2 trap tools for a total of 3.

however, you CAN buy trap tools and have them in your item box, which you can fly back to camp and get them at any time.

item prep is also something that hasn't changed much in the series, it has actually gotten a lot more lax in the pre-mission prep department. old days you dropped with what you could carry and the guild sent you. if you burned through all of that in 1 hunt then it became git gud scrub. now, you technically have access to near infinite healing and utility items so long as you keep yourself a way to get back to camp safely.

When you wound a monster to a limping state, it will start to run away back to its lair most of the time. That is the perfect time to run ahead of it, place down the trap and wait for it to just walk into it. Don't place the trap right next or behind the monster. It'll just keep on walking while you're stuck in the setting up animation. Once it's caught, you have plenty of time to cycle through the item bar or use the radial menu to select your tranq bombs.

Either way works, though I prefer tranq-ing first. If you trapped a monster multiple times before, they become resistant to it and it lasts shorter. This can result in them breaking free before you can use 2 tranq bombs, so tranq-ing first and then trapping is ideal.

And yeah, it's annoying that the monsters will sometimes flawlessly avoid traps. That's why you carry extras with you, and wait for a moment to just place it directly under them.

and advanced tip as well, if your using a weapon with exhaust damage and you get a monster to a exhausted state, traps will last longer.

for quests your not trying to capture, its a great way to get it to hold still for precision targeting.

the effect of tranq bombs last a little under a minute to my knowledge so you got some leeway.
since there is no health bar in game, the closest things you got to figuring out what health the monster could be at is.. Seeing it limp around.
Seeing a skull icon floating around the monster in the minimap/map
and if its pulse is almost dead around the target ui which is near the minimap, which usually indicates its close to karkin it
about Capturing Monsters .... a near fool proof way is to Bash the monster until it goes to sleep , then wait until it sleeps , throw your Tranqs , then place the trap = PROFIT (there are some monsters like Anjanath in the Forest where placing a trap underneath the sleeping monster is impossible)

also spoiler but kinda Important
do not attempt to capture Elder Dragons it's just flat out impossible
but i have seen enough noobs needlessly raging because nobody tried to Capture the Elders

Thanks for the tips ppl what do you do in a scenario where the beast recovers from limping state & is back to fighting ? Are you sort of screwed because you cant keep damaging it or it will die but you need it to be in the weaned state to capture.
