Paolumu Light Bowgun
Just wanted to share my newbie experience.

I was about to playing main quest, Paolumu first kill. I decided to do an expedition first and gather research for its element weakness. Turns out it's fire. Weakness point at its neck. And it's a flying wyvern, so I decided to forge anjanath light bowgun (that's before I found out bowgun doesn't have any element bonus) and craft some fire ammo, and then do the quest.

20 minutes.
It took that long for me to slayed it.

Then I comeback for some expedition and slayed it with anjanath greatsword (fire element). 15 minutes, maybe lower.

Yeeeaaaahhh I still don't know how to play this game correctly.

the bowgun kinda lower dmg . And maybe you need clawclutch to tear the scale first so your hit not getting grey dmg .

For Light Bowgun your main focus is to utilize any ammo that has rapid fire capabilities (For Anja it'll mainly be Normal 2 and Spread 1) and use good placements of wyvernblast to punish the monster for attempting to attack you.

Edit: A fair bit of people also forget that you can melee with the bowgun too and ~5 smacks to the head will make the monster topple over. Pair it with a wyvernblast while meleeing a weak spot and you'll be dealing heavy damage.

Elemental ammo works like pierce ammo and you want to rely on the accumulated damage of each tick. Monsters with small bodies are usually not efficient for pierce like ammo because there is not enough meat to do the extra ticks. You you aimed in a way the bullet will not go through the monster body, that’s also dps loss.

I cannot say for sure, but maybe that’s part of the problem you were having with paolumu.

oh yeah I've heard about that pierce ammo. The key is to shoot it at the longest axis of the monster. In other words, shoot it at the head straight to its tail, or perhaps tail to head also works.
