The time limits serve as a means to check the player. If you were able to spend infinite amount of time in a quest, it'd make things painfully easy and boring. I'm sure there might be a mod that could maybe pause the timer, but I think you would be missing out on a lot of the feeling if you tried to remove or alter it.
Back then hunts were made for a group of four, so if you solo that it'd take around 30-40min. Here the HP scale with the number of players, so you can solo them in 10-15min.
There's only one monster that has a kind of tight timer, the very last boss. It adds to the challenge so it's fine.
does this game have a team finder where i can play with randoms?
You can join other people's lobbies too, but I haven't really used it (outside of the siege hunts). I mostly use SOS.
The lobbies/SOS you see are from your download region, so if you are playing at odd hours or if your zone is empty you can change to other regions on steam. Takes like 4 clicks.
So after you've seen the monster you can either shoot your own SOS quest flare and others can join you, or, you can return back to the hub and join someone else's.
Regular quests still have time limit.
