are hunts still time-limited?
im planning to return to the franchise. the last one i played was in PSP lol. the thing i hated the most was the timer. it didnt make sense why hunters are given time-limited hunts back then especially when theres no story.

but i heard theres somehow a story now in world. so is the time-limited hunts justifiable now if ever there still is? or was it removed already. thanks!

Yes, there are still time limits.

The time limits serve as a means to check the player. If you were able to spend infinite amount of time in a quest, it'd make things painfully easy and boring. I'm sure there might be a mod that could maybe pause the timer, but I think you would be missing out on a lot of the feeling if you tried to remove or alter it.

Almost all hunts have a 50 minute time limit. If you can't kill a monster in 50 minutes... dude....

i rarely failed before due to time. i just dont like it. the monsters are challenging enough. but i'll still give this game a try maybe after my run on skyrim.

Monster die a lot faster than what they used to.
Back then hunts were made for a group of four, so if you solo that it'd take around 30-40min. Here the HP scale with the number of players, so you can solo them in 10-15min.

There's only one monster that has a kind of tight timer, the very last boss. It adds to the challenge so it's fine.

wow thanks for this info. the scaling sounds good. yeah i remember playing the PSP MH game with 3 other friends. brings back a lot of memories.

does this game have a team finder where i can play with randoms?

Expeditions have no time limits. A lot of story events start out as expeditions. Most hunts have 50 minute limits which is plenty of time. It's not until end game that you get timer scammed with hunts that last less than 50 minutes. That's not including optional investigations.

Yep, just fire off a SOS flare and standard matchmaking applies. Anyone can join the hunt at that point.

Yup, you fire a SOS Flare and random people can join your hunt. The quest board shows other people's SOS, so you can see what they are hunting before joining in.
You can join other people's lobbies too, but I haven't really used it (outside of the siege hunts). I mostly use SOS.
The lobbies/SOS you see are from your download region, so if you are playing at odd hours or if your zone is empty you can change to other regions on steam. Takes like 4 clicks.

You will probably need to if you want them to join in low rank hunts. Low rank is basically the tutorial, so people generally don't join unless you ask for help.

I just wanted to comment and say if you're blasting through low-rank(the tutorial) and want to do it with others it's actually pretty common to see SOS flares for the hunts. Keep in mind though let's say your next story mission is hunt monster #05, and you want to hunt monster #05 with others you can't until you've seen the introductory cutscene for monster #05.

So after you've seen the monster you can either shoot your own SOS quest flare and others can join you, or, you can return back to the hub and join someone else's.

Expeditions have no time limits and once you kill/capture a monster, it respawns after a bit.
Regular quests still have time limit.

Expeditions have less rewards though.
