No, Asmongold has nothing to do with those high numbers. He is the one who wanna make money on that hype train.

The guy can't even figure out how to play The Witcher 3. He will stop playing this by next week. He can't play anything other than a warrior with a greatsword that needs to spin while the game holds hands to make decisions.

Having watched some of his stream out of curiosity it definitely looks this way. Players like him have got to be the game designer's worst nightmare. Barely reads anything, ignores most tutorials, then claims the game must've not explained something well enough. Does not pay any attention to contextual clues, makes no effort to interact with anything that is not strictly required, causing him to miss whole gameplay systems. Has trouble navigating the UI of something as simple as an item box, uses it in the most backwards way I could think of and then complains the UI is not intuitive and sucks (even though all the controls are plastered right there all the time). Tunnel vision and short attention span. Seemingly zero curiosity about anything that doesn't have to do with what he wants to do in the moment. It's like he's THAT guy every western game designer in the last few years was afraid of when they were designing all those horribly, hand-holding tutorials, UIs that tell you everything you need to do with detail, quests that literally GPS you to your destination.

I don't dislike the guy or anything, but I legitimately don't think I've seen somebody struggle so much with things I would expect even complete beginners to never have any issues with. On the other hand he pretty quickly picked up the fundamentals of the great sword and doesn't struggle very much with the combat system of the game, you know the first part almost every single new MH player needs to get used to? He kinda picked that up and just went with it for the most part...So, despite quickly grasping something that most people need some time getting used to, he shows incredible incompetence when it comes to things I would consider infinitely easier or even downright obvious, and is very resistant to learning things unless they are literally put in a big message box that is impossible to miss or ignore (and even then he will skip most of it somehow). It's just so weird, quite literally never seen anybody act like this before, it's both interesting and bewildering.

Maybe it's because he spent too much time playing a single video game and not much else, so his frame of reference it's extremely narrow and his game sense is nowhere near as good as somebody's who has played multiple different games and can orient themselves easier in a new gaming environment.
Ah, the classic Egoraptor approach.
im cool with asmon, but people like the OP make asmon look like jerk .

I've watched him on and off as well. It could also just be a mild case of dyslexia coupled with some other mental disorder(s).

Asmon has a very hard time adapting. And learning isn't his strong suit (he says this every time he tries picking up a new game).

After watching him play new games that he's unfamiliar with, the process is the exact same every time. He'll typically always play keyboard/mouse for games designed with controllers in mind. He'll typically mispronounce the names of things or slur his words. He'll have a hard time using critical thinking to "connect the dots" around a mechanic he doesn't get. He'll stubbornly use the same combination of skills and abilities even if they work poorly on a mob or boss. Etc.

Nothing wrong with that, but his chat clearly make him insecure when trying out new things, because they tease and bully him relentlessly about it.

And then of course you have your typical chatter who'll just say that "he's bad at games" as if they're any better.

Only reason he started playing it was because it already peaked 100k+. He playing some games have contributed them to be more popular in the past but this is not the case

The one he is having a big problem with the shortcut and settings menus that he doesn't how this works?
Please do not attribute MHW surge of popularity to asmongold. He is 100% jumping on the bandwagon, he isn't leading it.
The game didn't get that many players because of asmongold the increase in players was due to a marketing campaign called return to World as the game went on a super low sale.
Asmongold simply decided to play the game because its the popular thing now.
I imagine him playing it added like another 20k players to the game at best.
