When does the game teach to capture monsters ?
Am I missing something ?
I just now downed Barroth in the new biome and by now I am getting bunch of quests or bounties or whatever to capture large monsters, but the game has given absolutely no arena tutorials on how to actually do that.
In contrast the claw tutorial was pretty nice and taught detailed mechanics about controlling facing of the monster to lead it into a direction.

I've wanted to capture the large creatures for a while now, but have absolutely no idea which specific keypress and item combo even begins that part.

Does the game throw a "capture tutorial" at you at some point or am I supposed to randomly figure that one out ?

it gives you a brief voice over from the handler on your first capture quest but yeah it could be improved. on the bright side it is very simple!

Get the monster weak enough that it starts limping or low enough that you see skulls on its mini map icon (needs a good research level), stick it in a trap, then you got 5 seconds or so to drop 2 tranq bombs on its face! :)

My memory is vague, but there is definitely a tutorial popup with 2-3 pages about capturing. You can check your previously unlocked tutorials somewhere in the menu.

I think it comes with the first quest that asks you to specifically capture a monster instead of just "hunting" it (Kulu Ya Ku?). The quest might be from a guy on the left of where you spawn in Astera (facing the Resource Centre, there is a small square area to the left, at a lower level than the Ecological researcher. Sometimes there is a person standing there).

Yeah, this capture quest comes surprisingly late, after I've seen countless investigation prompts for capturing large ones and that scientist guy talking about capturing live specimens, I was wondering I am doing something horribly wrong.

Why late? They want you to get down the basics of the game first.

Tranq bombs can be dropped any time, but they wear off if the monster isn't ready. Wound, trap, tranq, gg.

How do you know a monster is wounded? There are several indicators. If you have level 3 scoutfly info, a skull will show on the map, The heartbeat indicators at the bottom get weaker as the monster loses health, when it turns to flatline they are almost ready to cap. Monsters typically drop aggro the moment they reach critical health and limp away. This is very convenient because they usually run to their lair to sleep, which is a free setup to tranq/trap/gg. Lastly a monster will spontaneously drop red slinger ammo at low health thresholds. The first one is a clue, the second one is like 1 hit away from capture, and the third one is too much, don't kill it!

If you keep an eye out for all the signs, you won't miss it. Monsters practically tell you when to capture.

Oh, and any monster classified as an "Elder Dragon" can't be captured. Not all elder dragons look like dragons, so pay attention to what the guys say about them.

whilst that info about the hearbeat is correct i strongly advise not using whilst you are getting to grips with capturing. flat line only means 30% hp or under and some monsters need to go as low as 10% for a capture, it can also do a lot of other things other than flatlining during this time depending on monster enraging or can appear as a flat line when a monster is tired rather than low hp.

It appears with your first capture quest, and yes that one is optional stuff that you could easily miss. I guess they didn't want people to capture monsters early since you don't really have a lot of resources
