That being said how often are you getting it? I still get it when I play too and I have a 5950X + 3080 + 32GB RAM, so very similar to your PC. I got it when I played it on my 5700XT + 4770K PC and I get it now.
I do hope you get it solved, my dude.
What I can say is that DX11 helps a lot reducing the occurence. It somehow happens less often If i don't use my 2nd monitor. Afterburner graph are completely stable until crash happens where usage obviously goes down.
My GPU is know to get quite hot without undervolting (hotspot maxed a 95°c, 80°c for core, I don't like it and prefer getting 975mV at 2805MHz if someone is interested somehow with this underwatting info).
I'm telling you guys this because some people said to stop undervolting MHW back in 2020, but well, I've never had a crash for month until playing MHW so you can trust me when I say that my GPU is solid stable with these settings.
In my case 12 gigs are more than enough to handle the 7.19 asked on QHD. I've given temps just for people who might wonder specifics.
My temps are quite high because I'm using a 240Hz monitor so yeah, PC gets pretty hot given i'm not limiting framerate (I guess it would be very chill at 60fps lmao).
My message was not to point out in anyway you might be wrong. Just a shame to have to nerf graphics with modern rigs. I'd rather deal with the occasionnal crashes.
Indeed undervolting seems to be a possible cause as I said above, EVEN IF your system is perfectly stable on every other games. AMD users reported that sometimes the game increase GPU usage while reducing voltage, no matter what they did. Maybe undervolting makes this issue more and more frequent.
On the other hand MHW is quite demanding on GPU if you plan on uncapping FPS. Playing at 60 is a piece of cake with 60°c maybe, but if you uncap fps, oven time. One should monitor his temps and be sure the GPU is fine temp wise. Thermal throttle could lower clocks and thus create instability.
On my side, disabling HDR (that honestly looks bad on MHW) helped reducing this occurence. Played 1h at noon, didn't crash on DX12. I also ticked run as admin just to try an other option.
Maybe this tinkering might help if other people can tell what did work and didn't.
EDIT : got one crash on alt-tab. Given the PSU infos I gave above, I'll try "prefer maximum performance" in power management of nvidia panel as well as force constant tension on afterburner, will update if anything goes wrong (or as expected !)
