That's certainly true. Your Palico is a total chad in World; compared to Rise that is. That's why in Rise you can bring two.
Rise is not a combo game like world.
As a gunlance guy, rise felt a little bad. Wirebug moves feel very anti-gunlance and that translated to it being the bottom of the charts in the meta
Don't know if the DLC changed that.
I am a world > rise hunter, and I agree. palicos in world were braindead and got you killed more often than not. I remember palicos in 4u being godly, so it was a big difference for me (I didn't play much of generations so I don't remember if palico AI changed around this time). I do think they might have nerfed palico AI on purpose after playtesting the game a bit because then MHW would have been even easier and even more long time hunters would have complained probably. .
On the OP, I thought it was interesting that the dlc sales for world vs rise is where you really see the difference in sales worldwide as of March 2023. 12.7 million for base rise vs 18.8 million for base world isn't actually that bad of a difference given that world started with playstation and xbox while rise started with the switch. 2 v 1, ok. but, sunbreak only sold 5.4 mil vs iceborne's 10.2 mil. Base game rise sold 2/3 of base game World, but rise expack sold a little over half of world's. that's basically 54% player retention with world vs 42.5% player retention with rise.
Typical ZSD spammer, opinion discarded. World mantles remove all difficulty are are up for over half a fights run time. Real easy to "do combos" when you have hyper armor and instant dodges. haha
I know Graphics arent everything. But why would I play a followupgame that looks worse than its predecessor.
You can't spam ZSD in MHW, kiddo.
That's where you are wrong. Just keep clutch clawing the monster over and over for 90s. Super hard gameplay.
Not really, as an 'old fan' who play MH since 2G from the PSP era, also 3G, 4, MHW and MHR, i definitely rated MHW over MHR. MHR design is offset far from the franchise. Yes it does return to the portable console feel like the first few series. But MH franchise itself was presented and developed a slow paced game which player typically spend 20-40mins to kill a monster.
In fact MHR battle system has diverted from MH series due to wirebugs and all fast paced combat skills (not player skills), its not a bad thing but turning people away from realism which was what this IP is all about. It's art style is also different to the previous series being cartoon like, maybe to suit Nintendo playerbase (which Nintendo players are quite defensive).
Two games are good, but in term of playerbase targeting: MHR=Kids & teenage; MHW= old people/old fans. The new MH:Wild just released its trailer you can tell the franchise heading back to MHW like which you cant deny.
In MHR, you can cancel the recovery of ZSD with Soaring Wyvern Blade:

Also it's sweet and balanced, how dare you.
Rise was designed for Switch, and is constrained by the hardware limitations of that platform.
Rise is great for playing on-the-go to get your MH fix whilst you're away from home, but World is miles better when you're sat in front of your TV/monitor. It's really this simple.
