Why is World more popular than Rise?
What made Rise so much worse than World?

That's certainly true. Your Palico is a total chad in World; compared to Rise that is. That's why in Rise you can bring two.

I spent most of my time playing solo or duo. They were extremely useful in MHW in general, and like I said, they felt like actual characters in MHW.

Ah, yes, they actually felt like partners who abandon you while you're stunned and only come to you when you don't need them to, just to get you carted
clearly, yours did not like you
I am not the only one with this issue, and it was a non issue in the previous installments NOR in Rise.

Weapon combos feel great in MHW, especially with SA. They feel pointless in Rise, since you just spam bug skills instead.

I remember when the tier lists came out and it became clear that Rise only favored like 2 weapons, and it was wire bug skills that put them there.

Rise is not a combo game like world.

As a gunlance guy, rise felt a little bad. Wirebug moves feel very anti-gunlance and that translated to it being the bottom of the charts in the meta
Don't know if the DLC changed that.

I am a world > rise hunter, and I agree. palicos in world were braindead and got you killed more often than not. I remember palicos in 4u being godly, so it was a big difference for me (I didn't play much of generations so I don't remember if palico AI changed around this time). I do think they might have nerfed palico AI on purpose after playtesting the game a bit because then MHW would have been even easier and even more long time hunters would have complained probably. .

On the OP, I thought it was interesting that the dlc sales for world vs rise is where you really see the difference in sales worldwide as of March 2023. 12.7 million for base rise vs 18.8 million for base world isn't actually that bad of a difference given that world started with playstation and xbox while rise started with the switch. 2 v 1, ok. but, sunbreak only sold 5.4 mil vs iceborne's 10.2 mil. Base game rise sold 2/3 of base game World, but rise expack sold a little over half of world's. that's basically 54% player retention with world vs 42.5% player retention with rise.

Typical ZSD spammer, opinion discarded. World mantles remove all difficulty are are up for over half a fights run time. Real easy to "do combos" when you have hyper armor and instant dodges. haha

For me it was the ♥♥♥♥ graphics. I have games on my Smartphone better looking than Rise.
I know Graphics arent everything. But why would I play a followupgame that looks worse than its predecessor.

That's scrub logic. The palicoes didn't get you killed; you got you killed. Palicoes are just there as an occasional saving throw, not to play the game for you. They also stand around doing nothing when you are stunned in rise too, such as when fighting Khezu.

You can't spam ZSD in MHW, kiddo.

That's where you are wrong. Just keep clutch clawing the monster over and over for 90s. Super hard gameplay.

Pretty good video

Older fans realize that the reason world resonated with old AND new fans was the grounded similarities to Freedom Unite, the all-time best MonHun. Weighty, slow combat in a rich world that has a focus on feeling alive and being on a real hunt.

People like Rise less because it's nothing like Freedom Unite. It's all arcadey and anime with a focus on surrealism
A large chunk of old fans hate World, and basically say it doesnt resonate with them. And I can promise, most people that use the "Freedom Unite" BS excuse are the same people that say Monster Hunter got kiddified because it went to Nintendo consoles. But nice try.
I should also add, World is especially popular right now because of the ICE mod, and just having a large modding player base (which is weird in hind sight, as RE Engine is super easy to mod). That, and just a lot of nostalgia for a majority of players' first Monster Hunter game. Like I enjoyed World, but it genuinely does not deserve a lot of the praise it gets, it feels like history gets rewritten when talking about World.
Also, you use surrealism, but then Rise's world is based on real world geography? I dont think you understand half the words you use.

Not really, as an 'old fan' who play MH since 2G from the PSP era, also 3G, 4, MHW and MHR, i definitely rated MHW over MHR. MHR design is offset far from the franchise. Yes it does return to the portable console feel like the first few series. But MH franchise itself was presented and developed a slow paced game which player typically spend 20-40mins to kill a monster.

In fact MHR battle system has diverted from MH series due to wirebugs and all fast paced combat skills (not player skills), its not a bad thing but turning people away from realism which was what this IP is all about. It's art style is also different to the previous series being cartoon like, maybe to suit Nintendo playerbase (which Nintendo players are quite defensive).

Two games are good, but in term of playerbase targeting: MHR=Kids & teenage; MHW= old people/old fans. The new MH:Wild just released its trailer you can tell the franchise heading back to MHW like which you cant deny.

Clutch Claw wasn't introduced until IB, and ZSD actually consumes amp gauge in MHW. You also have a super long recovery at the end of it, and you don't have the wire bug to dive attack out of it.
Tenz Dec 9, 2023 @ 1:26am
ZSD doesn't knock you flying like a monster hit, and you can only wire fall from that kind of hit from a monster. Bro, do you even play monster hunter?

I did, but you clearly didn't, despite your purchase indicator.

In MHR, you can cancel the recovery of ZSD with Soaring Wyvern Blade:

That's not wire fall.

Also it's sweet and balanced, how dare you.

World was made for PC & console, and takes advantage of that hardware.

Rise was designed for Switch, and is constrained by the hardware limitations of that platform.

Rise is great for playing on-the-go to get your MH fix whilst you're away from home, but World is miles better when you're sat in front of your TV/monitor. It's really this simple.
