You can always take an egg back to base in any expedition to get points, you should try it. The Guiding Lands is the only eggs in the game that can't be delivered.
Because it's there! The possibility that it might be impossible makes it something to try.
Tell me more? Game says they change behavior, but I've not actually noticed.
Picking up a Wyvern Egg usually summons a Rathian (if present) straight to the nest if it isn't busy doing something else on the map. Not sure about the Rathalos. It also turns most monsters and small pests highly aggressive towards you as well. If Rathian sees you holding the egg, it will immediately enter combat (maybe even enrage, although I don't know about that) but if you drop the egg before she sees you, even if you're snooping around the nest, she won't aggro, except in the usual territorial way, etc.
